Hey, remember when I laughed at everyone who was freaking out about the impending storm of dooooooom? And I said that I was enjoying hanging out at home while the weather was still kindof nice? And how I laughed and said, hey look there are a couple of snow flakes?
Yeah, I take it all back. We’re surrounded by snow and ice. Not cool. So not cool. Actually, it’s quite cool. Twenty two point two degrees in Malden, to be exact. I don’t think that the weather has let up since Friday. Well, it seems to have stopped snowing now.
You know what other fascinating tidbit I learned this weekend? Malden does the shittiest snow removal job I’ve ever seen in my entire life on the east coast. Seriously. I could clear roads better with a hair-dryer and a toothbrush than the DPW does here. It probably has something to do with our town being brokity broke broke, but (from what we’ve seen) Malden hires one guy with a broken plow to clear the roads and they sprinkle one grain of salt about every 350 feet.
I’m serious, people (hyperbolizing, yes… but I’m also sortof serious). Kristian and I were out and about Saturday (today we were smart enough to stay inside where there is no slush) and we were remarking on the terrible road conditions when all of a sudden things opened up and we could see pavement and the car wasn’t sliding all over the place. What changed? We drove into Everett. Where they apparently keep their roads clean. Further investigation (we took a different route home) revealed that the phenomenon of road conditions changing right at the town line continued throughout the cities’ borders.
Long story short? We might live in one of the best places in America to raise kids (excuse me for a minute while I laugh so hard that my eardrums burst) but we also live in one of the best places to practice your winter weather driving skills.
Apparently I will be taking the bus to work until May.
