Easter Weekend 2014

One of my in-laws is having some health problems, so Easter was a little bittersweet for us this year. But, we still managed to have a nice holiday. It definitely helped that my sister Allison was visiting.

Saturday morning, we left the house bright and early and drove up to Salisbury for the Tortoise and Hare 10k. Allison and I ran the 10k, while Kristian and Lilian did the three mile walk. Part of the race was really lovely, it went down a shady trail through the woods. Part of the race was by the side of a busy road, and not quite so lovely. But, we still had fun. And, thanks to some encouragement from Allison (and the fact that I had no interest in being beaten by the girl behind us who was wearing a freaking fleece vest), I finished.

(We are not going to talk about the half marathon I’m supposed to run in 5 weeks.)

(We just…. won’t.)

Easter was supposed to be a free day for our diet bet, but Allison and I came to a mutual decision that it would be a free weekend. Thus, the Five Guys. And the hippie oreos. And the limonatas. And the jelly beans. And the gluten free brownies. By the end of the weekend, I felt like a junkie on a bender just before they go to rehab. I think I’m good without junk food for a couple more months.

A coworker texted me Saturday afternoon and asked if I knew anything about the Revere Carnival. Know anything about it? It’s down the street from us! We took Lilian the other day! Also, we were planning on heading back with Allison and Pepper. So, we met up my coworker and his family, and Lilian got to check out the baby goats some more.

(I assure you, she was not so unimpressed looking in person.)

We also got another look at the local grocery store from up on top the ferris wheel.

I don’t have any decent photos from when we hung out with my coworker, but I assure you that a good time was had by all. With four adults (Pepper had to head out, and Kristian was with his family), and just three kids… there were plenty of opportunities to go on all of the rides we wanted. Allison and I were partial to the Freak Out. I didn’t know how badly I needed that endorphin rush until we were heading home and I realized just how much better I was feeling.

The “Easter Bunny” set up a little egg hunt for Lilian in our backyard while she was napping on Sunday. The “Easter Bunny” probably went a little overboard on the chocolate… but that’s what happens when a) Easter is the one day in four months that she can eat chocolate. And 2) she goes to Target when she’s really hungry.

(Kristian very carefully cleaned up the backyard ahead of time, so Lilian didn’t find any extra eggs from Gracie.)

I think Lilian’s favorite gift was the water bottle shaped like a bunny rabbit. Note to self: maybe don’t get so much chocolate next year.

My Dad called and asked us to wait to start the egg hunt so that he could be there for it. And I’m so glad we did! Because, he is such a secret softy and he totally loved the whole thing. And I just loved watching Lilian have fun with her grandpa.

(My mom was out of town, but I hope that we can spend Easter with her next year.)

It took Lilian some time to get the hang of it (don’t forget, she didn’t get any practice last weekend). But, by the end, she was gleefully running around the yard picking up eggs. She even took some of her eggs and put them back. What can I say? My girl loves putting stuff away.

Holiday with Lilian just keep getting more and more fun.

(Especially when nobody ends up puking.)

(Or with hand, foot, and mouth disease.)
