The Calm Before the Storm

We’re getting ready for Hurricane Sandy. And by getting ready, I mean “hanging out, watching the Weather Channel.” We made some brownies last night (no, not that kind) and Kristian picked up a few things at the grocery store yesterday. Other than that, we should be all set with the gear and supplies that we already had at our house. Ironically, I just noticed that we’re low on milk, which I believe is what we’re supposed to mob our local grocery store for.

It’s nice to be married to an outdoorsy guy. We have a basement that’s well stocked with sleeping bags, camp stoves, dried food, etc. My one concern was keeping Lilian warm if we lose heat, but if it gets really cold I can always put her in her snowsuit and/or strap her to me and snuggle under a blanket. Kristian did clean up the yard last night and he put away anything that might potentially become a projectile.

Kristian had to go to work today, which makes him pretty much the only person I know who didn’t get to stay home. After ten minutes of Weather Channel doom and gloom, I texted him and told him to get his butt home at lunchtime. The worst part of the storm is supposed to hit during the early afternoon and I don’t want him on the highway when there might be 50 or 60 mile per hour wind gusts.

A few of our favorite house guests (Josh, Pepper, and Yogurt) stayed over last night. So we’re feeling nice and cozy. We’ll see how I’ll feel if we lose power, but for now I’m having a nice little day. I hope that all of my other east coast friends are taking appropriate precautions and staying cozy!

  1. Booze and cell phone chargers. I’ve never quite understood the disaster milk, bread, eggs thing. Like you’re going to whip some french toast or omelets when the power goes out…?? Booze, like liquor that doesn’t *have* to be refrigerated, and any charging device you can think of for your phone, then you’re set!

You guys stay safe. Let me know if you need anything.

  2. Hope

Oddly enough, one of our house guests was saying earlier today that he wanted to make french toast. :p
