Number One: Have Drinks at Top of the Hub

Remember when I had a 30 Before 30 list? Yeah, me neither. But I had one! And then I did some of the stuff on it! And then I got behind on my recaps! And I didn’t finish!

Because turning 30 means that I am older (yeah!) and wiser (not really!) and thus in a position to be magnanimous towards myself (work with me people!), I am giving myself my 30th year to finish out my list and post the recaps that I never got around to writing.

So, hey, the day before I turned 30, a bunch of friends and I had drinks at Top of the Hub.

Not pictured: me spilling all over myself because I might be older but I am no less klutzy.

It was the foggiest of foggy nights. So foggy that it wouldn’t have been outside the realm of possibility for one of our fellow diners/drinkers to be murdered in dramatic fashion. “Pull a Miss Marple and solve a murder mystery” was not on my 30 before 30 list, so I am glad that everyone behaved. Murder is just so messy. Besides, we were several dozen stories above Boston and not in the English countryside so murder would have been rather out of place.

The fog did mean, however, that there was not much of a view. Unless you count looking at grey swirly clouds as a view. Which I don’t.

No worries! It was still a lovely evening with lots of good friends, tasty appetizers and surprisingly reasonably priced drinks. We all resolved to meet up again when there would be more to look at. And then we never met up again. I should probably get on that.

I drank a Ruby Manhattan in honor of my niece whose name also happens to be Ruby and who lives in NYC. I think it adds that little extra touch of class to choose your alcoholic beverages based on the names of small children that you are related to. Don’t you think? And this was a classy evening. Why? Because I say so.

I’ve lived in Boston for pretty much my entire life and I’d never been to Top of the Hub. This can partially be explained by the fact that I only reached legal drinking age 9 years ago. But mostly, I just never got around to it. And isn’t that pretty much the point of one of these lists? To give ourselves a reason to do all of the things that we never got around to doing? And I’m very glad that I got around to this one.

Maybe one of these days I’ll get around to going back.

Maybe.
