So, the show went great last night. There were a lot of people there, which is always nice. I thought that Sean and I sounded fantastic, but I suppose that I’m a little biased. There was just the little matter of the car fire…
So, I was hanging out in the club after sound check, eating dinner (50% off for the band, you gotta love a club that takes care of its musicians) when all of a sudden the bartender comes running downstairs, grabs the fire extinguisher from behind the bar and goes racing back upstairs. Naturally, this was a little off-putting.
/Hope scopes out the nearest fire exit and makes sure that there is nothing blocking her path should she need to make a dash for it in her very impractical shoes.
I was heading for the stairs to see what all the excitement was about when one of the guys in the other band comes running downstairs saying “aw shit! the club is on fire!”
Ummmm, yeah. Not so good.
/Hope eyes the fire exit to check and make sure that it is, in fact, still there.
Then one of the other guys in the other band comes running downstairs saying, “no! the club isn’t on fire! it’s just a car right outside!”
Oh, well, that’s better. Right? I mean, the club is not going to go up in flames. I’m shaking a little less in my impractical shoes. It’s just a car. Full of gasoline. On fire. Right outside.
/Hope eyes the wall closest to where she knows the car is and trys to figure out if it’s strong enough to not come crashing down on her should said car explodinate.
But then we heard the sound of sirens and the firefighters came and put the car out and nothing exploded and even though it still smelled a lot like burnt car (which, btw, is now very high up there on my list of nasty smells that I have been unfortunate to come across), everything was pretty much fine at that point. The sound guy made a joke about having our own fog machine. I tried to think of fire songs that I knew the chords to, but couldn’t come up with any. Any of the following would have been hilarious had I known how to play them:
* We Didn’t Start the Fire
* Ring of Fire
* C’mon Baby Light My Fire
* Burning Down the House
* Fire and Ice
* Fire in the Disco
But, unfortunately (fortunately?) I don’t know any of those songs and I’m no good at faking songs that I haven’t played before. So, the world was spared my butchering of a timeless Johnny Cash classic.
Oh well, maybe next time.
Not only did you not have to fake any fire songs, but it wasn’t your car that burned. Bonus!
