162.

So, I got my LSAT scores back on Saturday night. I scored a 162. While a score of 162 doesn’t preclude me going to law school, it does make it very unlikely that I will get into a top tier law school.

*Kicks the ground. Mutters something about not really wanting to go to Harvard anyways. Chows down on some sour grapes.*

To say that this news put a slight damper on my weekend would be a bit of an understatement. However, I was able rally and read all of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and most of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Yeah, I know, I’m a champ like that.

It’s funny, I’ve been so ambivalent about the whole law school thing lately, you’d think that this wouldn’t have bothered me that much. I guess that I wanted the decision as to wether or not to go back to school to depend more on how I felt about it and less on how well I was able to fill in a bunch of ovals with a number two pencil. It’s also hard, because I honestly thought that I kicked that test in the ass and now I’m feeling a little humbled. I guess I’m not as smart as I thought I was.

My mom would probably say something about how nice it is to know that I’m human after all. Personally, I’m just bummed that my streak of kicking complete and total ass on standardized tests has finally come to an end. I feel a bit like Cal Ripken Jr. on a sick day.

On the positive side, my Fletcher Class ended last week and I think that I did well in it. I’ve been leaning more and more towards wanting to go to a Masters program, so doing well in this class would be a good thing. Of course, we all know now that my perceptions of how well I did on test might be a bit off. Enh.

  1. Isn’t 162 in the 90th percentile or something?? Do they tell you that part?

What next? Do law schools tell you how they weight LSAT scores and GPA?

  2. Exactly, Hope. Is that 162 out of 170, 190, 200? Give us some perspective. Not as smart as you thought you were? Puhleeze! That’s a test of what you know, not of how smart you are. Obviously you know a lot and there might be an area or two where you simply need to increase your knowledge.

  3. It is out of 180.

You still have time to retake it if you want to apply for next fall. But, with a 162 you could get into a Tier One school, for sure. Maybe not Harvard, but certainly something in the Top 50.
