Gainfully Unemployed

I’m starting a new job in January. Today was my last day at my current job. For those of you who can’t math… that means I have almost two weeks where I will be completely unemployed. Some of you are probably thinking “It’s the most expensive time of the year. You are totally nuts.” And you are probably right!

But who wants to start a new job right after Christmas? Not me, that’s for sure. Plus, I had already planned on taking that week off to spend time with family. I’ve always heard about the joys of taking time off in between jobs. I guess now I get to find out if it’s really all it’s cracked up to be.

It was definitely bittersweet to say goodbye to everyone today. I’ve been with my current employer for over three years. And I have a lot of really amazing coworkers who I consider to also be really great friends. There were a lot of hugs going around the office when I got ready to leave this evening.

The new gig is fairly similar to what I’m doing now, but with a different client base. It’s a smaller company, so I will be taking on some extra responsibilities as well. The best part (besides the raise)? It’s in downtown Boston. And they pay for your subway pass. I will probably regret saying this… but I’m really looking forward to taking the T to work again. I have to drive my three different schools just to get to the highway and my current job. Dealing with Orange Line will be a cakewalk by comparison.

Starting a new job always makes me nervous, but I’m looking forward to a new challenge!

Jealous! I feel like I have been looking for something for new for forever! Congrats!

  • Thanks! My industry is very small, which means that there aren’t a lot of good opportunities out there. But, it also means that when you find a good opportunity, they haven’t had many good applicants. :p
