Pics and Pieces

I got a new haircut on Saturday. My stylist got a little snip-happy (I think that there was a little miscommunication about the fact that I thought that I was still growing out my hair), but it turned out so well that I didn’t bother getting upset. Plus, Kristian likes my shorter hair.

New Haircut!

Looks good, right? Right? Right?

(That’s your cue to ramble on in the comments section about how adorable I am).

Right now, this is what the third floor of our house looks like. It looks like it looked two years ago, when I took this picture.

Third Floor

I refuse to let this freak me out. You hear that brain? I said refuse.

My step-dad came over on Sunday to asses the long list of things that needs to be done. He and Kristian spent a couple of hours putting together a plan of attack while my Mom and I had a mini tea party. Have I mentioned how much I love my family?

Other than that, things have been rather non-eventful around here. We spent most of the weekend watching Harry Potter movies with a few good friends. We got all the way through the fifth movie before crying uncle and returning to the Muggle world. Which just means that there is more Harry Potter in my future. And that is never a bad thing.

What have you all been up to lately?

  1. LOVE the haircut, Hope.

You’re adorable in every look — even with blue hair.

I’m sure the menfolk (hee hee) will get that third floor finished before you know it. No freaking out. Stress is bad for the baby. How tired will you get of people talling you things are good or bad for the baby? Let me rephrase. Stress is bad for you and the baby. 🙂

  2. I totally love your new do’! It looks really sassy! I have been growing my hair for ages but every now and then I get the urge to go for a short funky look like yours! It suits you well, and I like the highlights too!

  3. YES, your new hair is ADORABLE!! Just think, the third floor is a blank canvas 🙂

If I had known that an impending grand-baby would cause all of the grandpas to start nesting on my behalf, we might have started trying even sooner! :p

My step-dad has a master plan for finishing the third floor that makes my heart swell just to think about it. And my father-in-law stopped by yesterday with a guy that he uses for renovations and is going to pay him to knock three big things off of our house to-do list.

Knowing that it’s going to be hard to find the energy to work on the house once the baby shows up is a little overwhelming, but I’m feeling so much better these days knowing that our families are pitching in to help us out.

Thanks! I’ve discovered the secret to getting good cuts and colors from him is to give a general idea of what I want and then let him do his own thing. I have so much hair these days, I think he did me a favor by cutting it down to a manageable length. Also, I have noooo energy these days, so it’s nice to be back to a no-maintenance ‘do.

We had a choice at one point of making the third floor generally useable, or gutting it completely and starting from scratch. There were so many things wrong with it (the walls were literally crumbling!) that we decided to blank canvasize it.

It would be nice to have the use of it now (I desperately want to move the furniture from our current guest room/office up there and start turning the guest room into a nursery), but we’re going to be so much better off in the long run making it really nice up there. Just the fact that we were able to spray in foam insulation and put in four skylights has made a huuuuuge difference.

Your hair is cute! And you can grow it out starting now…so by the time Baby comes, it will be a new look for a new stage in life 🙂

Also, your house must be huge!! That third floor is massive (I have tiny home syndrome, thanks to living in DC for so long)! But it has a lot of potential. If husband and step-dad plans run into snags along the way, you should see if you could get on HGTV! I’ve always wondered how people get on those shows…

    Thank you!

Our house has a fairly small footprint, but it’s tall to make up for it. But, yeah, by DC standards it’s huuuuuge. It’ll be even huger when we can use all of it. :p
