…. But it’s probably heading in that direction. Remind me to talk about my grad school classes sometime, so I can prove that my brain hasn’t been completely taken over by Gummy Bear.
I had my second prenatal appointment today. I probably should have seen the doctor sooner, but her office messed up and never called me to schedule this visit. Even getting in to see the doctor today was an ordeal. I won’t go into the long and boring details, but let’s just say that my doctor had to intervene because the office assistant that I spoke with on the phone was perfectly happy to let me go three months in between appointments. “Oh, it’s fine,” he said, “Just call us if you have any bleeding or cramping.” I’m not being particularly neurotic about this pregnancy (if I do say so myself!) but even I thought that three months was excessive. Luckily, my doctor agreed with me.
I wasn’t particularly looking forward to stepping on a scale today. My own scale is enjoying some much needed time off and has been sitting in a corner, gathering dust bunnies. My genius plan (if I do say so myself!) was to close my eyes while they weighed me and to then ask the doctor to tell me if I needed to eat more, eat less or keep things going about the same. Unfortunately, the physical placement of the scale required me to read off the numbers to the technician.
The doctor’s opinion? Well, I’m sortof on the right track but I could probably stand to slow things down a bit. I’m within the guidelines right now, but if I keep up my current pace, I’ll gain more than the recommended amount by the end of my pregnancy. Translation: spending the weekend eating an entire box of Russell Stover chocolates all by myself is probably not something that I will be able to continue doing. And, let’s be honest here, eating an entire box of Russell Stover chocolates by myself was never a good idea.
The doctor busted out the baby doppler today and I got to hear the heartbeat for the first time! It sounded oh so very sweet. And a bit like a wind tunnel. But mostly sweet.
Oh, and here is where I bury the lead. At the end of my appointment, the doctor gave me a referral for an “anatomy scan.” Which is fancy doctor speech for “an ultrasound where they check to make sure that the internal organs are all in the right place and, oh, yeah, take a peek at Gummy Bear’s nether regions to see if it has girl bits or boy bits.” So, sometime by the end of March, we’ll know if we’re having a girl or a boy. Holy cow! I can’t believe how quickly everything is happening.
Didn’t even know you were expecting!!! (I am SOOO behind on blog reading, it’s seriously embarrassing!)
YAY!! Can’t wait to find out what you are having. This is the first for you, yes?
YAY!!
I’ve been behind too, don’t feel bad!
This is our first. So exciting!
Congrats on the pregnancy!! That’s awesome you’ll be able to find out the gender at the end of the month! 🙂
Holy cow I had no idea you were pregnant! CONGRATULATIONS!!! That’s amazing. So stoked for you!
I’m kindof shocked at how quickly it’s coming up. It seems like just yesterday I was convincing my husband that having kids wouldn’t be such a terrible idea. :p
Thanks!
Can we take bets on whether GB is a boy or girl?
You’re going to be an awesome mom, Hope.
You are soooo on the same page as me! I’m thinking of doing a contest the week of the ultrasound to have folks guess. Just gotta think of some rules and a good prize.
I NEVER look at the numbers on the scale. I was at the doctor’s a couple of days ago, and I just looked at the ceiling!
