I’m not normally a fan of the tendency to count the days down until the weekend. Although, I must admit, I’m pretty good at the countdown myself. I guess I don’t like the idea of wishing for time to speed up. The weekend is such a tiny portion of the week. Life’s too short to wish for 5/7 of every week to be over.
This week? I totally get to count down the days until the weekend. Kristian is on a business trip and he gets back on Saturday. And I miss him!
I’m usually good for 2-3 days on my own. But, once the novelty of stealing all of the bed pillows for myself and being able to watch chick flicks with impunity wears off? Well, I’m left with a very quiet house and a dog that needs to be walked three times a day. Gracie made sure I realized that Kristian really was out of town by dry heaving bile all over our bedroom on Sunday morning, my first day on my own. And, instead of waiting until 7am like she normally does, she’s been barking at me at 6am every day. I’d say that I’m generally a fairly competent person, but things just run smoother when Kristian is around. Plus, I miss the goober. I don’t sleep as well without the comforting presence of his snores. And you know you love someone when you admit to missing their snoring.
Kristian and I don’t really make much of a big deal over Valentines Day. I’ve been known to make plans to travel to see my sisters on V-Day weekend. So, it wasn’t the end of the world that we weren’t going to be together. But it’s been a tough month and I think I needed a little romance. Luckily for me, he arranged to have a mutual friend bring me flowers and chocolates. And she brought dinner, too! And a chick flick, which almost reset the clock on my “missing my man” meter.
(Almost).
For my part, I had some flowers and chocolates sent to his hotel room. Which sounds pretty simple, but it involved enlisting the aid of his Swedish speaking cousin, several Skype calls to his hotel in Sweden and twenty minutes (with the cousin’s help) trying to figure out how to navigate a floral website that was completely in Swedish. (In case you couldn’t tell, Kristian is currently in Sweden). I resisted the urge to write “bork bork bork” in the gift message box. The Swedes seem like a good-humored people, but I didn’t want to push my luck. Kristian got my flowers/chocolates and was suitably touched, so I guess I did good.
Three days until my husband gets home! I’ll try not to burn the house down between now and then.
I love that you and Kristian sent each other gifts for Valentine’s Day even though you were in separate countries! So sweet and loving.
I’m sure that Gracie misses Kristian, too. Unfortunately she expresses that with dry heaving and bile. 🙁
She is much, much happier now that he’s back. 😀
