Sky High

Kristian and I are trying to stay realistic about this house that we put an offer on. There are so many ways that we could end up not getting this place. The bank could reject our offer. Someone else could put in a higher offer. The home inspector could find a zombie infestation in the basement.

And yet…

The temptation to get excited about the very real possibility of home ownership (especially this particular home) is, well, tempting. Our realtor left an encouraging voice mail for me this evening. Things appear to be going well. The lawyers have our offer in hand and they’re busy proposing a settlement to the bank. We still have to wait for an acceptance and then we have to do a home inspection.

So, we’re not ready to send out evites to our first barbecue.

Yet.

  1. Girl, I feel for you. I was in your shoes, just this time last year. I think this was about the time we made an offer and said “can you be out in two weeks?”

Since the decorating is the fun part, its easy to walk in and immediately start wanting to rip apart and redo everything. My advice is to just live in it for a little while, get a routine, and then you can *really* put your touches on it. And hopefully have any expensive disasters out of the way (like, I don’t know, air conditioner going out…)

  2. This was one of the most nerve wracking times for us too! I think that I had a daily panic attack waiting to see if the sellers would accept our offer. I called Damian and my mom almost hourly just so I could vent some of my nerves and not explode.

I agree with the living in it and seeing what you think, especially with kitchens or any other serious renovations.

However, if you know that you want to replace all the flooring I highly suggest doing this while the house is empty.

  3. Oh, good luck! It’s so hard not to get excited. I hope everything goes smoothly.
