It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. Or, a sundae that’s meant to be consumed by small children (who are, presumably, in the process of having their own happy childhoods).
Some coworkers and I went out for what was supposed to be some quick errands during lunch the other day. It turned into a long lunch at Friendlys (sometimes you just want some carbs, you know? a metric ton of carbs). I was joking about wanting crayons to draw at the table, so my friend Jeff told the hostess “Can we get some crayons for my daughter, please?” She didn’t bat an eye at that. I suppose that the folks are just a little bit jaded.
Also, does this mean that I can still pass for twelve? I know I am often mistaken for a student when walking around campus. But I thought that the fact that I have, you know, boobs was a good indicator of my having gotten all of that puberty stuff out of the way by now.
So, yes, I was given crayons at Friendlys and I happily drew pictures of monsters and bugs and flowers with them. My only regret? Leaving my artwork at the table when we left. That was some damn good crayon work.
I also ordered a monster sundae off of the kids menu. What can I say? It’s delicious, appropriately sized (those adult ones are huge!). Plus, it comes looking like a monster with M&M eyes, a cherry nose and peanut butter cup horns. As a vegetarian, it is a rare occasion when I get the chance to eat something with a face. You gotta take advantage of that.
Also, it was the perfect opportunity to make a stupid face for the camera.

I want an ice cream sundae soooo bad!
