Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

Friday, May 6th, will be my last day at my current job.

I’m leaving to take a job in the private sector. My job will be very similar to what I do now, but at a higher level, with nicer equipment, and I’ll be wearing panty-hose.

(Theoretically, I will be wearing nicer clothes on top of said hose).

It’s a pretty big change for me and I’m feeling nervous but excited about it. I’ve been working at Tufts for over six years, so I’m pretty used to how things work around here. I think that it will be good for me to break out of my comfort zone. The fact that I will have some real growth opportunities is not so shabby, either.

I sent out an email yesterday to the people outside my department that I’ve worked with closely. I’ve been here for so long, that list ended up being something like 80 people. I’m completely overwhelmed by the number of responses that I’ve received. I expected a few people to write back, but it seems like pretty much everyone has responded. And their responses are all so sweet. A good chunk of them started their emails with, “Noooooooooooo!” And all of the nice things that people are saying are doomed to make my head so big that I get trapped in my office and can’t take my new job.

New job, getting married… this is a year of big changes for me. It seems like they’re all changes for the good (I know that the marriage is!). I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.

  1. Congratulations!!! A lot of change at once can be a little unsettling – as in, well, the pantyhose will probably be itchy – but as things settle it will be SO NICE to look around you and realize how AWESOME your life is!!!

  2. Hope

The panty-hose is going to be runny! Ever since I realized that I will need to wear it almost every day, I keep putting runs in any pair that I put on. I wonder if they sell it at Costco….

  3. Panty hose? You took a job that requires wearing panty hose? *long, horrified shudder* I’ve been living and working in the Florida Keys for so long that I’d have trouble taking a job that required me to wear anything other than shorts, a shirt, sandals, and sunscreen.

Good luck and congratulations, Hope! Very proud of you. In your honor, I have composed a haiku:

    Words with BeerandPie
Long unplayed. Did she bite off
    more than she could chew?

  4. I like these changes! These are good, big, happy changes!! Congrats on all of them!

  5. Hope

I don’t mind wearing them, although I think I’m going to add a line item in my budget for their purchase.

I am so lame about words with friends. But I played a word last night!

  6. Just wait…a year from now…you’ll be amazed at how much can change.

(as in: a year ago I was at a job I hated and lived in Georgia…whereas now we’re in Colorado and…no more miserable job!)
