A Year Later

I’m approximately 73 years behind on my post-processing of photos. Which is pretty impressive, if you consider the fact that I’m only 29 years old.

(There are probably some dog years in there somewhere).

While working on photos from Christmas (of 2010, I’m not that far behind), I found a photo of my Grandmother, Mother, Sister and Niece. I knew it would be there, of course. My sister asked me to take it as an update to this one that I took the year before:

This past year brought a lot of big changes. My little sister got married. Kristian and I got engaged. My Grandfather died. The little baby in that picture is now a squirmy toddler.

Just like we did in 2009, we all gathered at my house in 2010 to celebrate Christmas and to enjoy spending time with each other. It was sad that one sister and her husband couldn’t be there. It was awful that my Grandfather won’t be there again. But it was wonderful to see everyone and to see them all doing so well. In a family as big as mine, that’s not a foregone conclusion.

The march of time can be overwhelming and (more than) a little bit scary. But, all in all, it’s treated my family pretty well. Everyone’s (relatively) healthy. Everyone’s (relatively) happy. We’re all still willing to spend the Holidays with each other. New jobs, new careers, new promotions. For the most part, it was a pretty good year.

Plus, this time, nobody cried in the photo.

(PS. Isn’t it amazing that everyone but the baby looks pretty much exactly the same a year later).

(I’m not sad to be inheriting those genes).
