I’m Playing With Roger Miller on Friday!

I had a hard time thinking of something interesting to say for today’s entry. I mean, the highlight of my day was getting a free lunch in exchange for listening to a schpiel from some Ameriprise financial advisor. The only thing more boring than an entry about lunch is an entry about financial planning, the basic summary of which is that I don’t have a whole lot of money and this is generally considered to be a bad thing. The lunch was pretty tasty.

But then I realized! That I have a show on Friday! And I am sharing the bill with Roger Miller! And I couldn’t stop ending my sentences with explanation points! Because, it’s so exciting!

For those of you who didn’t grow up in the Boston area with music loving parents, Roger Miller was the guitarist for a band called Mission of Burma. Mission of Burma, quite frankly, totally rocked. You probably know their song, “That’s When I Reach For My Revolver.” Moby did a cover of it. His version kindof sucked. We don’t hold that against Mission of Burma. No, no we don’t.

So, basically, I will be sharing the same stage with the guitarist from a band that I totally and utterly idolized as a small child (my parents, they were not so big on Raffi). I think that this falls under the realm of very, very cool. I will also be performing at the Middle East, a venue that is just the epitome of music in Boston. Can you say, “sweeeeeeet!”

The show is the second in a series of “Unhappy Hours” organized on the behalf of the non-existent Tibetan Olympic Team. The Tibetans would make great Olympians with their high altitude training and diet rich in yak meat. Unfortunately, they are currently under Chinese occupation (boo!), which limits their options tremendously.

If any of you are going to be in the Boston area on Friday and are in the need of a stiff drink and some sarcastic songs about felines, please stop by and check me out. The show kicks off around 5pm and features myself, the aforementioned Roger Miller, Christian McNeill and Tibetan artists. There’s a suggested donation of $5. We’ll be at the Middle East Corner in Central Square, Cambridge.

If you’re not in the area, enjoy some leftover turkey or tofurkey and relax. I’ll be sure to post pictures after the fact.

Lunch was delicious! And blame all of us for engaging the financial advisor who ended up taking 30mins of our time… Guess nothing is free huh? Hey, have fun on Friday and happy Thanksgiving 🙂

  2. Oooh, maybe I’ll see if I can drop by. I’ll have a friend visiting me, though, so it depends if she’s up for it or if we’re still too stuffed with t(of)urkey.

  3. I was already singing, “Trailer for sale or rent. Rooms to let 50 cents. No phone, no pool, no pets. I ain’t got no cigarettes” when I realized you couldn’t possibly mean Roger Miller of “King of the Road” fame. The guy’s been dead for 15 years. ARGH.
