Workout Music Recommendations?

I have a very difficult time finding good music to work out to. I like to get my cardio on while listening to cheesy pop music. But I am very, very picky about my cheesy pop music. So, listening to Pink is pretty much the pinnacle of workout happiness. And listening to Katy Perry makes me want to run right straight into a brick wall.

It’s a hard knock life, for me.

Now that my knee doesn’t constantly feel like it has bits of broken glass stuck in it, I’ve been trying to hit the gym every day. I alternate 20 minutes on the treadmill with lifting days. But, even on days that I lift, I still run for 5-10 minutes to help build up my stamina and get myself into that happy workout mood. Which is all just a boring way of saying that my 27 song workout playlist just isn’t cutting it anymore. I still like most of the music… but variety is the spice of life and I feel like I’ve been spoon-feeding myself gruel for quite some time now.

Pandora, which is normally so helpful in finding similar music does me no good. It can’t differentiate between Top 40 crap and Top 40 crap… that I like.

So, because I know that you are all wicked smart and dying to help a girl out, I turn to the internets. I should point out that I also enjoy working out to punk rock and other decent music. But I like to mostly stick to the bubblegum as I tend to eventually associate my workout music with, well, working out. I like to hear a song and have it instantly get my blood pumping. That doesn’t happen so much when I listen to it outside of the gym.

This is a sampling of what’s currently on there:

Pink – Stupid Girls
Pink – So What
Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend
Depeche Mode – Just Can’t Get Enough
Survivor – Eye of the Tiger
Flogging Molly – Devil’s Dance Floor
Bouncing Souls – Olé
Petshop Boys – Always on my Mind
Candy Butchers – Sparkle
Kelly Clarkson – Since U Been Gone
Billy Bragg – When Will I See You Again (a bizarre workout choice, but the tempo is just perfect)
K’Naan – Take a Minute

What do you all like to work out to? Any good music to recommend?

  1. I’ve been loving Kelly Clarkson’s ‘I Do Not Hook Up’ and ‘If I Can’t Have You’. ‘If I Can’t Have You’ is great pick-me-up when I feel like I’m about to die. I try to find dance remixes of songs too, that usually gets me moving.

I would advise against working out to Dragonforce.

    i don’t have a workout mix, per se….

Pandora popped up some Roxette for me the other day, which i had entirely forgotten about and i think would be great to sweat to.

do you like Duffy? KT Tunstall?
