Snow Day!!

I woke up this morning, took one look at the mess outside and immediately decided that I would really much prefer to stay inside, preferably in some sort of bed-like position. Ask and ye shall receive… I checked my email and we had a snow day.

I’ve already had a leisurely breakfast of frozen waffles and cherries, read a few chapters of the book I’m currently reading, tidied up our living room and taken a nap. I figured it was time to settle in for some serious business, aka finishing up the lap quilt that it feels like I’ve been working on for fucking EVAR. I went to sit at my sewing machine and, horror of all horrors….

I am practically out of white thread!

Out of Thread

It is ridiculously difficult to take pictures of white thread on a white spool with an iSight camera. So, take my word for it when I say that I have just enough thread to hold the last remnants of it in my little hands and cry out to the heavens, “Why, God, why?!?!”

Oh, the huge manatee.

Have you ever seen this episode of the Twilight Zone? It feels a little bit like that. Except, you know, without the whole “destruction of all of humanity” thing. I have some time to sew, because we have a snow day. Except I can’t go out and get more thread. Because, you know, there’s a metric shit ton of snow out there.

I had a nice talk on the phone with my grandmother and she suggested using another color that was light enough that you couldn’t see it. Which was a fantastic idea. Except, you know, I looked in my sewing kit and I have…. Black. Navy Blue. Fire Engine Red. Olive. Eggplant. More Black. I found a tan color and I’m going to use it. Because I will finish this quilt. Dammit.

Dear thread stash: So. Not. Helping.

(I’m going to use that one all the way to the right. It’s vaguely beige-ish. Right?)

  1. Hmm. On the very day I catch up and read this blog entry, I earlier spotted a very large manatee swimming by my house. Coincidence?
