She’s Crafty

My maternal Grandmother, after years of an arthritis induced break from knitting, is making sweaters again. She started with baby sized ones and recently finished a full sized one for my sister. I asked her what brought on this return to the world of knitting (thinking that she’d tell me about some new arthritis medication or pain reliever) and she replied, simply,

“Your grandfather told me that it’s good for my soul.”

As a fellow crafter, that made perfect sense to me. Spending time focusing on a task, working with your hands, making something beautiful out of raw materials. Knitting, sewing, gluing little pieces of paper together… it’s practically a meditative process.

Today I practically attained sewing and paper product induced enlightenment.

I will show you pictures of my inadvertently patriotic quilt when I have more of it done. It’s looking damn good. And red. White. And blue.

(I’m working on making it look a little bit less like the Fourth of July).

I also got all nostalgic today and decided to make a bunch of Valentines Day cards. Witness the partial fruits of my labors. I like the strawberry ones the best.

I hope people like them.

In between napping and crafting this weekend, we went out with some friends for drinks and just barely missed this. Good times.

Did any of you do anything exciting this weekend?
