My day began today with (yet another) person sending me an email addressed, “Dear Ruth…”
Why must people call me Ruth? Why? Oh, I know why, it’s because people don’t fucking read. I know that I should let it roll off my back, but it’s just a general symptom of my biggest stress factor here at work. People don’t take the time to read things completely, do stuff half-assed and then complain when the system doesn’t work. Just as people skim my name and somehow come up with Ruth, they skip our training sessions, skim our documentation and then complain when the A/V system doesn’t work.
“You want to know why there was no sound? It’s because you ignored the BIG FLASHING BUTTON on the screen. The button that clearly said MUTE.”
It’s pretty hard to hear any sound when the system is muted.
Some days, I would find it very gratifying to be given the permission to dole out boots to the head when they are so richly deserved.
I love my job. I swear, I love my job. It’s just that, some days, I have no tolerance for ignorance and stupidity.
What cheeses you off at work?
Those same kinds of people. The “OMG Emergency!!!” people, when it’s really not. The ones that feel our job is to take blame for whatever goes wrong with anything. I could go on and on….
For me it’s usually gouda and cheddar (where’s my drumset?) but seriously, students that grub for extra credit. Seriously, that 1 point will make a difference out of the 300 for the quarter? Grrrr….
