Perspective, Please

Ok, I’m feeling grumpy. And I really have no reason to be grumpy. Because I loved my training session and I got another free dinner and my hotel room gets the NFL Network so I get to watch the Pats game tonight. And, really, my reason for being grumpy is ever so stupid.

I’m grumpy because my training finished a day early and I have the day to myself tomorrow.

Please try and contain your laughter long enough for me to explain myself.

Seriously.

Stop laughing.

Please?

Nerd that I am, I was really enjoying the class. And I wanted another day to practice programing and to play around with their fun equipment  and just generally geek it up.  I should be cheered up at the prospect of a day in DC to myself. And I am. Sortof. But I have the following issues:

  • I was planning on taking a plane down, sitting in a classroom for three days and then flying back up. As a result, I didn’t bother to pack walking shoes.
  • It’s going to rain.
  • I’m twelve miles from the nearest Metro station and I don’t have a car.
  • I’m not such a fan of sight-seeing on my own.
  • Did I mention that it’s going to rain?
Sure, I could spend the day in my hotel but that’s just lame and depressing.
Ok, I know, waah waah waah call the waaahmublance. There are worse things in life than having a free day in a fun city. Root canals, bankruptcy and listening to Celine Dion come to mind. And, really, I’m not feeling irritated as much as I’m nervous about how I’m going to get myself to somewhere fun tomorrow. And I’ll get over it.
I just needed to vent a little.
Am I the only crazy idiot who would rather spend a day learning something cool than sightseeing alone?

  1. Does your hotel have a spa? This sounds like the perfect spa day.

Either way I prescribe flip flops for your predicament.

  3. I agree with Lisa – I would do anything for a spa day!

no, i hear you. especially since you already changed your flight once!

personally i would try to get a library of congress card and do some “research”. maybe take a cab to air and space and geek out there 🙂 or screw tourism and go shoe/umbrella shopping :p

Jennie’s there, it didn’t sound like she had much on the agenda, i could email her and see if she’s up for company.

  5. This is probably too late, but can you call the people who did the training and see if they’ve left yet? Maybe they’ll let you play on the equipment. Are there others in the same boat, er, hotel? You could buddy up for a trip to the Smithsonian. Surely there’s a Payless near the collection of museums that would sell you inexpensive sneaks.
