Today isn’t my first day of maternity leave, but it is my first day with Lilian where I don’t have Kristian around to bring me snacks help me out. I started the day off with a little extra sleep deprivation, because I didn’t think it was right to make Kristian change any diapers last night when he has to work all day today and I (theoretically) can nap when Lilian sleeps.
(Lilian is currently napping and I am currently blogging, so we can all see how well that plan worked out).
I was wearing real clothes by noon, I did some laundry and I emptied the dishwasher. At this point, I think I’m allowed to coast for the rest of the day. Although if I get really daring, we might go to the grocery store to pick up some milks. Such is the exciting and glamorous life of the parent of a newborn.
Things have been going as smoothly as life with an itty bitty baby is able to go. We’re all pretty tired, but still very happy. Even the pets seem to have taken things in stride, although maybe we will have a rebellion on our hands when they realize that Lilian is here to stay.
I’m supposed to take things easy until my six week checkup, but we have been getting out every day to do some walking. It’s slow going, but I’m getting a little faster and my endurance is already loads better. The first time we took a walk in the hospital, I barely made it a few hundred feet before realizing that I was in way over my head and begging Kristian to escort me back to the nearest reclinable surface. Last night, we took Lilian and the dog around a local pond and I pushed the stroller the whole way around. I think that our walk might have been close to a mile? Not bad for less than two weeks post-partum, although I was definitely wiped by the time we got back to the car.
I am now completely baffled by the women I know who were back to playing sports 3-4 weeks post-partum. And I ran a half-marathon at 12 weeks!
Things have been very cozy around here with lots of friends and family members stopping by to bring us food and to have a little snuggle with our baby. When we first got home from the hospital, our friends Josh and Pepper stopped by to pick up our CSA veggies for the week, made a stop at Whole Foods and then spent an entire day cooking up batches and batches of meals for us. They filled our fridge and our freezer. Plus, they asked the cheese guy to recommend the cheese that he would eat if he couldn’t have raw milk for 9-10 months. A little bit of that cheese and some hard cider and I had a very happy post-partum evening.
My Dad asked me yesterday if life with our baby is what we’d expected it to be. To be honest, I was still a little too dazed by the whole experience to give him a proper answer. I think it’s all still sinking in.
But our lovely little Lilian sure is a delight.

You’re doing great, Hope. Don’t overdo and ruin your forward progress.
Ohmygosh she is the CUTEST! Also, GO NAP WOMAN! xoxo
LOL! Sack of potatoes! That’s awesome.
I took it easy for the rest of the day. And I even got a nap in!
It was short but sweet, I had a great nap. 😀
I can’t really take credit, my sister brought them as a present and an homage. :p
Adorable! Glad you all are doing well 🙂
Thanks! 😀
Glad you are doing well!! You forget about how crazy and hectic the time is adjusting to life after baby comes home.. but your minds blocks it out which is why we’re crazy enough to do it all over again! She is SO CUTE!!! Love all the pics
It’s funny what we’ll trick ourselves into doing all over again, huh? :p Right after I gave birth, I apparently looked down at Miss L and cooed “you’re going to be an only child!” And now I’m thinking, “well, it wasn’t soooo bad….”
