One of my sisters lives on an organic farm in Vermont. Every year, they put on two harvest festivals – Strawberry Fest in June and Pumpkin Fest in October. It’s been way too effing hot this past week, and I have a giant hot water bottle strapped to my front these days. So this was a great weekend to get out of the city and enjoy some strawberries.
Pick-your-own-strawberries is a popular attraction, but I’m not big on bending over right now and Kristian refuses to play to stereotype. So we mostly just watched other people pick strawberries and then Kristian bought us some strawberry shortcake and strawberry lemonade.
The best part about Strawberry Fest? Hanging out with my family.
My brother-in-law is the farm manager, so he doesn’t get to enjoy strawberry shortcake or hanging out on the lawn with family. Although, knowing him, I think that he enjoys hanging out in the sun all day.
We also took a little trip across the river to purchase some farm-raised meat. From a chest freezer in a barn. It might sound sketchy, and maybe it is a little sketchy, but I know from experience that it’s also quite tasty. And far more ethically raised than anything that you might get at a grocery store. Also, did I mention tasty?
It was, indeed, nice to get out of the city, enjoy the fresh air, and dip my swollen feet in the river. Unfortunately, I have now reached the “OMG, I had no idea I could be this uncomfortable” part of my pregnancy. Wandering Waddling around the farm was not as easy as it usually is. Luckily, my sister has a really powerful air conditioner. And my brother-in-law has a lazy boy. It turns out, the best way to spend a lazy Sunday is with your family, and it doesn’t really matter where that is.

Awesome! I’ve never gone strawberry picking before – but have gone blueberry picking. I imagine blueberries are much messier. Very cool that your sister lives on a farm! Also – you and your sister look so much alike!!!!
We used to go strawberry and blueberry picking home in Jersey. Good memories. Granted, I never did it in an advanced pregnancy.
When we were young, we sometimes got mistaken for triplets!
Strawberry picking is pretty easy, although we left it up to the professionals this time.
That’s ok, I haven’t either. :p
