Eat, Drink and Be Merry….

…. For today we close!

Barring any last minute disasters, it looks like we will actually be closing today. I know, I know, I’m having a hard time believing it myself. Things were really up in the air on Friday. We were closing! We weren’t closing! The sellers’ bank had signed the paperwork! But they hadn’t sent it! And they weren’t going to send it! Because they’re bastards!

But, finally, the sellers’ lawyer busted out a giant can of whup-ass and I think that he basically told Chase that he wasn’t going to leave them alone until they sent the paperwork over. Hell hath no fury like a lawyer who doesn’t get paid until the house sells. I don’t know what he said to them, but they sent the paperwork right straight over. We’re allegedly going to close around 2:30 today. The bankers are probably still curled up underneath their desks, whimpering.

Can I get a hell yeah?

Kristian dropped me off at the bank today and I got a cashier’s check for the remainder of the down payment (we already paid a hefty deposit) and the closing fees. I have never held this much money in my own two hands in my life:

Note to would-be muggers: you can’t cash this sucker without signatures from both me and Kristian. And he went to work this morning (suckah!). So, leave me alone.

I am currently ensconced in a comfy arm chair in a cafe (hooray for free wi-fi! and, no, I’m not at Starbucks) taking care of some last minute details and drinking a latte. The woman at the bank heard me say that we were using them for our mortgage and she refunded me the $5 that it would have cost to get the cashier’s check. So, thanks for the latte, Cambridge Trust. It’s delicious.

In fact, it tastes a little bit like victory.
