I Believe that Some Congratulations are in Order…

(And you thought that this was a post about the house that we’re trying to buy)

(Suckahs)

I just heard through the grapevine that my sister, Allison, passed her thesis defense today! This means that she’s going to graduate with her masters degree. I couldn’t be more proud.

Of course, sibling rivalry being what it is, this means that I need to go and get my PhD now. Darn you, Allison, darn you! *shakes fist*

But seriously, my sister is awesome.

I don’t always understand her research, what with her being a botanist and me being a computer nerd who never actually took high school biology. I do know that it involves a lot of trips out to the desert and using various statistics programs that I tried to help her make work with her mac. I also know that she can give the scientific name for pretty much every plant in California. I also know that her favorite bird is the turdus migratorius (also known as the american robin). Who doesn’t love a scatological joke in latin?

Yeah, you can try and hide it all you want, Allison, but you are a gigantic nerd. Welcome to the club. Muahahahahaha.

My sister discovered her passion for studying plants when she was two classes away from getting her undergraduate degree in child psychology. She could have coasted through the rest of her college career, but she chose to switch majors and then proceeded to work her little tail off and graduated with a degree in biology. She has a thing about invasive plant species, which is particularly invaluable when you need some help weeding your garden.

She worked so hard to make this thesis work. She really buckled down and applied herself to writing it this semester. Even when the paper was done, she threw herself into making sure that the powerpoint for her defense was as good as it could be. I’m sure that she impressed the hell out of everyone on her committee. She sure as hell impresses me.

Congratulations, goober, you worked so hard for this degree and I am so excited for you. You should be really and truly proud of yourself. I know that I am.
