We went to a wedding yesterday. Much funness ensued. Yes, I made the word ‘funness’ up. Shut up. I’d give you a recap of the hilariousness, but I seem to have gone and gotten myself sick. It’s totally unrelated to the fun that we had yesterday. We had lunch with my grandparents today, so I am clearly not hungover. Just sick. Bleh.
Anyways, the flickr link to my photos from the wedding is here.
Because I’m not in the recapping mood, I’m going to share this one (hilarious) photo of me dancing with our friend Bidiak and ask the following question…
Why in the hell didn’t someone tell me how bad my roots looked?!?
I mean, seriously. From where I was looking in the mirror, they looked a little dark, but it seemed gradual enough that it could look intentional. And then I get the photos back and it looks like someone clipped some red hair to the ends of my brown hair and and and….. blech. Ick. Ugh.
You get the point.
So this is where you, my lovely blog readers come in. Because I know two things. One, you give excellent fashion advice and B, there are a lot more of you hiding out there. That’s right, I checked my site stats and I’m getting a few hundred visitors a day. Which means that there are a bunch of you lurking out there. So, please, delurk and tell me what in the hell I should do with my hair. Please.
As far as I can tell, I have a few options. And, because blogs have been scientifically proven to get more interesting when you write things out in bullet-point form, here are my options in a list:
- Continue dying my hair the same shade of red at home. Remind self to dye hair a hell of a lot more often than current hair dye schedule. Pros: pretty. Also, cheap. Cons: my hairdresser has already warned me about the perils of frying my hair with nasty hair dye chemicals. If I continue to dye at home, he just might beat me to death with a hairdryer. Death by hairdryer with pretty hair is still death.
- Dye my hair at home. Choose a natural shade that won’t result in scary roots. Pros: Cheap. Low-maintenance. Cons: Ugly. Also, boring. Also, have never had “natural” hair color. Resulting identity crisis just might drive me into madness. Therapy is not cheap. Neither is being committed. I like me some pretty hair.
- Go to salon and ask them to make my hair look less scary. Request a dye job that will grow out gracefully without icky roots. Resist urge to ask them to make me a blonde so that I may have more fun. Soothe fears of boringness by requesting highlights. Pros: Natural. Possibly pretty. Trained hair-dye professional will (hopefully) know how to change the color of my hair without frying it. Could have regular stylist dye hair so that he only has himself to blame if hair emerges looking like I stuck my finger in an electric socket. No more yelling. I hate yelling. Cons: Expensive. Possibly boring.
- Go to a salon and ask them to give me something funky. Like flame-red streaks. Or purple streaks. Or pink streaks. Request that hair look as unnatural as possible. Resist urge to request a mohawk. Pros: Fun. Cons: Expensive. Also, high maintenance. Also requires more money for maintenance. See: expensive. Pink hair is not exactly professional.
So, internets, what would you do? Right now, I am leaning towards the status quo by dying my hair its usual shade of red and holding off the onslaught of my stylist’s anger with hot oil treatments. The comments are open, please let me know what you think! Delurking is good for the soul. I swear.

I am probably the wrong person to ask for advice because to me, nothing looks wrong with your hair in that picture. Your hair looks awesome. I am envious.
Maybe people with actual fashion sense can give you actual advice…
I love that picture. I also really like the one of you dancing with a martini in your hand.
I don’t think your roots look bad at all. My vote is for something moderately funky. You could probably do some bright red streaks without looking unprofessional. Oh, and something semi-permanent might be best, it does fade faster, but it grows out gracefully.
I didn’t notice the roots. You look so cute dancing with your friend. Besides, I’ve seen you with your hair electric blue and bright pink, so even if I’d noticed the roots I would have considered them part of your look on purpose. *g* To answer your question — Let the stylist do the coloring.
i think you already know my vote- i love the red at home look 🙂
Yeah what roots? I didn’t notice! I vote for the red hair at home route, cuz I like your red hair! 🙂
okay, today is my first visit to your site. i don’t really know you at all so you can throw my advice right out the window.
with that said, if you like your hair colored red – stick with it. maybe hit up the salon this time around and get a shade closer to your natural color, but have highlights/lowlights in a auburn hue? whatever you decide i’m sure it will look great!
