That could almost be a catch phrase for what it’s going to take to get my house clean…
I’ve been thinking a lot about New Years Resolutions. I tend to not like them, especially when they make it that much harder to use the equipment that I like at the gym. And yet? I find myself making them pretty much every year. In fact, I made quite a few last year.
In looking back at whether or not I succeeded, the one common quality in all two of my successful resolutions (run a half marathon, send out birthday cards) was that they were relatively small and easily measurable. I might have missed a birthday or two, but I managed to send a card to almost everyone in my family. And I finished not one, but two half marathons. My more nebulous resolutions (lose weight, book more gigs, build up my savings), pretty much fell to the wayside. They were hard to track. Once things got tough, it was easy to let them fall by the wayside.
The nice thing about successful resolutions? They become a habit. I’m still sending out cards. In fact, if you’d like to get a birthday card this year, drop me a line with your birthday and mailing address. And, once my foot heals up, I’m going to be pounding the pavement.
This year, I resolve to make better New Years Resolutions!
In 2011, I resolve:
- To try one new healthy recipe a week (I suppose that this means that I’m going to have to cook something instead of waiting for Kristian to get home).
- To weigh myself everyday. My new scale
should make this a lot easier.
- To blog once a week on my music blog. It’s woefully neglected.
- To play music in the subway at least once a month.
If I play my cards right, succeeding at my resolutions should help me to lose some weight and to be a more successful musician. At any rate, they should be easy to manage.
I also resolve to participate in a 365 Project with my Brother-in-Law. We’re going to take and post a picture every day on our blogs. I’m going to post my pictures right here. He’s got a whole blog set up for his. I think I have enough blogs as it is.
At the beginning of last year, I posted a monthly update on how my resolutions were going. That seemed to go a long way towards keeping me on track. I’m going to try and make it a habit this year.
Do you have any resolutions of your own?
Hope, I’m not big on resolutions either. I go for goals.
Weighing yourself every day might not be as effective as you’d like. Anyone’s weight can fluctuate by a couple of pounds from one way to the next for a number of reasons. Many healthy-thinking people suggest once a week or twice a week at the most so that you don’t frustrate or upset yourself if you’ve inexplicably increased by 3/4 of a pound from one day to the next.
Whether you resolve or not, I hope that 2011 rocks for you, Kristian, and all of your family.
I did a Project 365 (I took some breaks, so it actually took me 15 months or so *g*) in 2008/2009. I liked it most of the time, so I thought about doing it for real (365 days in a row) for 2011 as well. Do you have a special topic or themes for your photos or will you just decided it from day to day?
Happy New Year to you, Kristian an your family.
I guess my “resolutions” are all more like goals. 😀
Weighing yourself every day without looking at the trend can be a problem. What works well for me (when I’m not too lazy to record the numbers) is to input my weight into a website that gives me an overall trend. That way, even if there is a slight fluctuation, you can see that you’re still trending down. It works for me when I’m faithful about doing it. My problem is that I have a tendency to not record the numbers that I don’t like. That’s why I bought the wifi scale. It records your numbers for you automatically. Which means that I can’t cheat.
I don’t have a theme, it will probably just be a photo from my daily life. The main problem is going to be post-processing. It will probably make me better about going through my photos right away instead of sitting on them. Well, that’s the hope. :p
And I resolve to not weigh myself at all this year! Seriously. Don’t even own a scale.
Happy New Year!
That is an *excellent* resolution!
How about play a gig with your band every month?
I need realistic goals! :p
I can’t do “resolutions” because I’ll just break them. I need a partner. So I found one, and my “GOAL” for 2011 is to write for hopefully 1.5-2 hours each morning before anyone else in the house wakes up (meaning my kids). My partner and I are going to check in w/ one another on Twitter at 5:15 a.m. each morning to hold one another accountable. We’ll see how it goes. I may take weekends off, or at least one of the two days…I’m scared. But I have to start somewhere!
I’m really impressed! I can’t imagine getting up that early!
Best of luck with you resolutions!
Thanks! You too!
