I’ve been to New York City more times than I can remember. I know we went a few times when I was super little. And I’ve been visiting my sister, Melissa, ever since she moved there 20 or so years ago. And yet? I had never been to a Broadway play. It’s not that I have anything against them, I’ve just never gotten around to going to one. Plus, they’re freaking expensive.
Well, I put it on my list and this past summer I (finally!) found myself in the audience of Avenue Q. Not exactly your typical Broadway fare, but completely and utterly delightful. Ok, by the time I got around to going, it was already Off-Broadway. But the songs were all the same and the puppets were just as dirty. I’m gonna go ahead and say good enough. I have a lot of items to check off of my list. I need to get cracking!

I only see Broadway shows when I’m in NYC. We have a theater where the traveling shows come, but I never go. Haven’t seen Avenue Q, though.
I saw Avenue Q at the London West End this spring. I had no idea what I was getting into LOL, just wanted to see something for a reduced price and Avenue Q was one of the available plays. I had a blast, because it was so so funny. And so not what I expected, when I had seen the muppets on the billboards before.
I knew what I was getting into or I would have been very surprised indeed!
I saw Avenue Q a few years ago on Broadway with bro and family. The male lead graduated from the same high school as my nephews. I knew nothing about the play going in and had a terrific time. I can hum along to Schadenfreude or It Sucks to Be Me and it makes me smile.
I’m a real Gleek and think they should do an Avenue Q episode with muppets that look like the Glee kids.
Mary, that would be extremely AWESOME. Glee + Avenue Q. I love it.
I saw Avenue Q. It was hilarious! I’ve never seen a show off Broadway. Maybe I should add that to my list.
Avenue Q is in a small theater, so it didn’t really feel all that different from going to a play here in Boston. But! I did walk through Times Square on my way to the theater. So, that felt appropriately New York-y. Kristian owes me a trip to NYC. Maybe I’ll make him take me to a show at one of the shmancy theaters.
