Looking For a Few Good Bottles

We are officially 359 days away from our wedding. Not that I’m keeping track or anything. Seriously, I’m not keeping track. I had to use a calculator to figure this one out, because I’m apparently very bad at math. Also, Kristian and I totally missed our pre-anniversary, because I’m terrible at remembering dates that aren’t in my google calendar. I had no idea that we’d even missed our “anniversary” until his sister said something to him. I have a sneaking suspicion that this is a trend that will continue well into the future.

All of this is my convoluted way of saying that our wedding is in a little less than a year! Which seems like tons of time, until you remember that I’m kindof insane about things like this and will probably be making most of the decorations myself. I’d probably make all of the food and drinks myself if I didn’t know that Kristian might take that opportunity to have me committed. In order to protect myself from my own mental illness, I’ve decided to start working on the crafty details now. I should probably work on things like booking the rentals now as well. I’ve heard a pesky rumor that guests don’t care so much about your lovingly crafted centerpieces if they don’t have any chairs to sit on.

Because I am an over-sharer (see: blog, all entries of), and because I happened to have a suitable photo, I figured I’d show you all some of the bottles that I’ve collected (so far!) for our centerpieces. The plan is to use 2-3 bottles a table and let the bottles themselves be part of the decorations. That way, we won’t need so many flowers. Besides, these things are damn cool.

Example Bottles

I’m collecting old apothecary and liquor bottles. I’ve been looking for bottles with cool writing on them and I’m trying to limit the bottles to that cool old blue/green color. They’ve been a lot easier to find than I originally thought. If I don’t find enough, I might buy some new ones in bulk. And then etch them myself. Because I’m crazy like that.

  1. I think it’s exciting! I planned a wedding in about 5 months, and it went very smoothly. Although, around here, the norm is about 2 months. 🙂

You know I love crafty, so if you get in over your head, don’t hesitate to ask for help!

Also, I’m not trying to be pushy or nosy, but are you hiring a caterer? My super-nice landlord is one, and I’d be happy to get you his contact info if you’re interested. If not, no biggie – just wanted to mention it.

  3. Hope

I helped my sister with her wedding a bit, so I’ve been making mental notes for a while. It’s just now that I’m getting down to actually doing stuff!

Alyssa, you’d better watch out or I’m gonna use you for slave labor! 😉

We’re having it catered by Tupelo and Petsi Pies. My Dad’s taking care of that part of things, which is a huge relief for me!

  5. Using old glas bottles instead of vases for decorations is a wonderful idea. I’m sure this and everything else you’ll come up with will look beautiful on that day.
