Catching up here because we’ve been going to town on our house and I haven’t had much spare time.

Best Place of 2009: The house that we stayed at in New Orleans. It was incredible. And chock full of amazing art. There was a Matisse at the top of the stairs.

Best New Food: This year, I finally learned how to enjoy eggplant.

Best Change to the Place I Live: When you buy a fixer-upper, everyday brings the chance to make changes to your living situation. Sometimes ones that you weren’t so keen on. Especially when they involve your kitchen flooding. But we made some real progress this year. I hope that, in the next six months or so, we’ll actually be able to use all of our rooms. Right now, we’re only using about half of our available space.

My favorite change to the house this year is that we decided to bite the bullet and gut the attic. We demolished everything down to the studs and we’re in the process of building it back up again. We tore out a wall so that it will be one, big, open space. Things have mostly been framed out, we had it insulated (Icynene, FTW!), we installed four skylights. And then the electrician ripped out half the floor boards…

… But we don’t talk about that.

Except when the pets and I fall through the gaps.

It still needs quite a bit of work, but it’s going to be absolutely amazing when it’s done. And it’s going to be my craft room. Mine all mine. I can’t wait.

Best Rush: Jumping off of a mountain. How could it not be?

Best Packaging: Pretty much anything I ordered off of Etsy.

Best Tea: This year, I discovered the tastiness of green tea. Not quite enough caffeine to make me crazy. Chock full of things like anti-oxidants and other things that magazines tell me I should drink more green tea in order to consume. And, allegedly, helps you lose weight. What’s not to love?
