Vicki wrote something the other day about how the times when we have all sorts of interesting things to write about are the times when we don’t actually have the time to write anything. Because we’re too busy doing the interesting things to actually write about them. Throw in a few days without internet access and some gastrointestinal pyrotechnics and you get my recent radio silence.
Oh, yes, the pyrotechnics. They were glorious.
And by glorious, I mean what in the hell is the point of being in France if you can only eat dry toast and bananas?
A brief recap: Kristian and I rented a car and took a drive into Switzerland and Italy. A good time was had by all… right up to the morning when I woke up and promptly puked my guts out. Luckily, it was the last day of our mini trip and I didn’t miss out on much.
Except our planned visit to a bunch of castles.
But I am not bitter. No way, no sir, no how.
Ok, I was a little bitter.
But I’m getting over it.
We’re still not sure if it was food-poisoning or a stomach bug. Kristian went everywhere that I went and ate everything that I did. So, he should have been just as sick as I was. Perhaps the man just has an iron stomach. Actually, I’m pretty sure that the man does have an iron stomach.
I’m feeling much better in that I am no longer curled up into a little ball, whining piteously and yelling at Kristian every time he so much as mentioned food. I am not a pleasant patient. Bless that man for putting up with me.
Anyways, dysentery aside, we had a great trip. I’ll do a proper write-up of it once I’ve gotten some of the pictures processed. Let’s just say that we saw a lot of old churches and Roman ruins. And mountains.
We’re in Cambridge now, where Kristian is working a couple of days for a client who has an office here. I’ve got a couple of days to be a solitary tourist, but I’ve mostly spent my time hanging out and relaxing. The anal-retentive part of my brain thinks that I should be doing more. But the part of my brain that is good at rationalizing things (97% or so of the ol’ grey matter) reminds me that I’m still not feeling great and that vacations are meant to be enjoyed.
And I sure do love sitting outside reading a good book. Or just plain relaxing.
So, I will continue to hang out.
And only feel slightly guilty about it.
Aww, stomach maladies suck! I’m so sorry you were sick. 🙁 On the bright side, in addition to recovering and resting and generally relaxing (you’ve earned it!) you have a golden opportunity for photo-editing… 😉
Ah, so sorry for the tummy troubles… I don’t think I’ve been on many vacations out of the country where I didn’t have a little bit, but that’s extreme! At least you’re relaxing now…
