My Latest Project

This is the quilt top that I got done today. It’s my first stab at making a quilt using applique. Looking at it from a bird’s eye view, I’m a little disappointed in the shape of the sun. I came up with it myself, so I guess that’s something. My grandmother sent me the train pattern, but I needed some more blocks in order to have the quilt be big enough for human (albeit in its tiniest form, a baby) use.

I’ll be stitching in a cage around the giraffe (and rails around the caboose), so s/he won’t always look like they’re roller-skating. Although, I must say, a roller-skating giraffe would definitely be a sight to see. Perhaps that will be my next project!

Once again, the colors in this photo are all off.

And, once again, I can’t be bothered to fix them.

I probably should have gotten more sewing done today, but I ended up spending a bunch of time working on the house. Kristian was doing things that are actually useful, like hanging drywall and whatnot. Me? I painted an accent stripe on our guest room wall and the trim in our main bathroom.

Hey, someone’s gotta get work done and someone’s gotta make things pretty. Which is why Kristian is so good at insulating the walls and I am most excellent at decoupaging light-switch covers.

  1. I am so impressed with your quilting!! Both quits are gorgeous! It’s something that I’ve been telling myself I should start up again. Also the applique can be relaxing once one gets to the zen moment. My mom has been making baby quilts for all of the cousins, though I think she’s really doing it as a not so subtle hint…but she’s ran into same problem, so she added two extra boarders in different widths, that way she didn’t have to applique more blocks.
