Well, errr, tell you about it. Because motivation to get out my camera, I lacks it.
(Was that enough LOLcat speak for you? Too much? Too much…)
Basically, I decided that I need a little extra incentive to get up off of my duff and, you know, work out. It’s not like I’ve been sitting around being lazy. Well, I’ve been sitting around being lazy. But I’ve gone to the gym 3-4 times a week during my lunch break. For the lifting of weights and tickets to the gun show.
But, I also ate a little too much over Christmas. Erm, five to eight pounds too much over Christmas. And I want to make sure that I keep up with my cardio so that I can kick some ass at ultimate frisbee this summer. Or at least not pass out on the field and require oxygenation.
So, I’ve come up with a plan to motivate myself. Bonus points? It involves a designer handbag. And shoes.
Basically, I made a chart (ok, will make a chart, it’s been a lazy week around here). And I purchased gold stars (gold stars have indeed been purchased). And, every time I do some sort of workout (my options are treadmill, lift weights, workout DVD or Wii Fit), I get a star. It’s like kindergarden, except without the freeze tag.
But wait, there’s more!
Every time I fill up a section of the chart, I do something nice for myself. First section is a pedicure, second section is a facial, third section is a new pair of (impractical!) shoes and the last section is a new handbag. A really fancy shmancy one. I’ve already started saving up. Perhaps I will even be practical and get a nice neutral color like brown or black.
Perhaps.
I also purchased a pedometer and have been wearing it every day. Apparently, just wearing one can motivate you to walk more. I’m already a little bit over 10,000 steps (the recommended amount) a day. Which makes me wonder how much walking most people get in during the day. Because I walk everywhere for my job. And I walk to work from either the bus or the T. And I always take the stairs and not the elevator.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a date with Jillian Michaels. Or our Tivo. Whichever.
We need to figure out some way to make this a Blogger Challenge. I think this is a great idea, I know several other people that are trying to lose weight or get in the gym, and we should find a way to encourage each other. Now I just have to figure out how…
Wow, Hope. What great planning! I love the idea of gold stars and planning head for rewards for meeting your goals. My goal is to go to a different fitness center when I get back from my trip and get some one-on-one assistance to focus on individual goals. (And kick my butt back into doing something!)
Do you love Wii Fit? I’m thinking of getting a Wii system for home. (Jonah’s taken up Ultimate Frisbee. I’m sure he’ll be eager to play at the Match.)
