Stormy Weather

Dustin apparently got up with the chickens this morning to choose today’s blog-off topic. That’s fine by me, I’m feeling rather uninspired today. Today’s theme is stormy weather. And I will now be singing Etta James for the rest of the day.

I like stormy days… but only if I don’t have to brave the elements. Or leave our house. Or put on real pants.

So, pretty much, I only like stormy days when I can curl up in front of a fire or a movie with a blanket, some fuzzy slippers and a mug of hot cocoa. I will begrudgingly admit to enjoy hiking in the rain or the snow… but only if there is a movie, blankets, fuzzy slippers and cocoa waiting for me at home

There is something very cozy and comforting about being bundled up snug and safe inside while nature rages all around you out of doors. It probably taps into some primal, cave-person need to seek shelter from the storm. Evolution (or the Flying Spaghetti Monster, if you prefer) has taught us that, when the weather takes a turn for the stormy, inside is good and outside is not so much good. The majority of the cave-people who ran outside into the rain and the hail and snow were probably struck by lightning or hypothermia and, thusly, had no chance to pass down their out-in-the-storm-loving genetics.

Or something like that.

I don’t think that I would like a month of bad weather (we probably won’t be moving to the south pole anytime soon), but I do like the occasional storm. They’re a good excuse for movies and cocoa.

What are your thoughts on stormy weather?

  1. Depends on the storm’s severity. I do not like having to lock down my hurricane shutters, store all of my outdoor furniture, and go through days of watching the “cone of uncertainty” to determine whether I need to evacuate the Keys. I do, however, love staring out over vast expanses of water to see where rainstorms are — as evidenced by the dark gray curtains of rain falling from the sky. It’s amazing how we can spot the storms. Bad pun and all, I get a charge out of dazzling spears of lightning, too.
