A Quick Update

Hi Everybody! I haven’t written anything in a while, because I’m back in the US for some work stuff. Also, because I went and caught COVID. 🙁 I’ve been using this time to get caught up on my guilty pleasure TV shows and craft projects, but it’s not exactly an exciting time over here. I’ve barely left my mom’s attic. I’m basically a very quiet ghost. I felt well and truly rotten the first few days, but now I’m mostly just a little brain fog-y and tired.

I can’t even show you my projects, because I can’t leave the attic to give them to my intended recipients.

But! I do have some good news! Today, we signed a lease on an apartment! I’m not sure when I will be able to fly back to France (I don’t want to book any travel until I test negative), but I’ll be heading back to our permanent digs. The original apartment that we were hoping for fell through, but Kristian spoke actual French on the phone with a realtor and was able to arrange a tour and subsequent rental of this unit. His reward for all of his hard work is that he gets to move all of our stuff from the Airbnb to our new place without my assistance. One of the dads at Lilian’s school offered to help, so hopefully the two of them can manage it. There’s not much of it, but Lumi’s airplane-friendly dog crate is enormous.

The rent is a little more than we were hoping to spend, but it’s in an amazing location (right near a major metro/train/tram/bus station) and is large enough that Kristian and I will each have our own office.I called dibs on the room that looks like it would be good as an office/craft room and Kristian was kind enough to humor me. I’m so looking forward to getting it all set up!

It’s also a few blocks away from the cat cafe and an aerial studio, so that’s basically all of our needs taken care of right there. 😀

What are your favorite guilty pleasure TV shows and movies? Bonus points if I can watch them on one of the streaming services we subscribe to (we have Netflix, Disney+, AppleTV+ and Paramount+). So far, I’ve gotten caught up on Ghosts, School Spirits and Elsbeth, and I’ve watched the Addams Family and the Addams Family Values.

Hope your recovery is soon complete. Since you’re living in France, I suggest Etoile. I also adore Great British Baking Show.

I’m not sure what (if any) services it’s on in the US, but if you want to practice some French I do recommend Engrenages (called “Spiral” in the Anglosphere). I don’t normally like copaganda shows, so I do take note of the ones that I actually get into.

Hope the evil lurgy clears up quick!

Ooooh, thanks for the recommendation! Lilian and I have watched all but the latest season of Astrid (it wasn’t available in the US, but I should see if it’s available here). She’s been hesitant to engage with French media (she feels so much pressure to be learning French from it), but I bet she’d watch this one with me!
