Just Dance

Just Dance

Today, we were all pretty tired from our daytrip, so we mostly just chilled at home. I think I had three little micro naps.

We did wander to the end of our street though, because there was a dance parade!

The parade was to kickoff a dance biennial here in Lyon. The theme was recycling and all of the troops used repurposed materials in fun and creative ways.

Each group had their own music and theme, with floats and groups of dancers. I saw age ranges from little kids to an older woman boogying it up in a wheelchair. It was so joyful!

Most of the floats were human powered. It was so cool to see how they’d built bikes into some of them. Also, no engine noises or emissions! (Thanks, eco mafia!)

There were hundreds of dancers and thousands of spectators. I wish we’d planned a little better. We walked downstairs as it was starting, so we didn’t have a good spot. I’d like to have seen better. But, it was still a super cool way to spend some time on a Sunday. I have to read more about the dance biennial. I think there are other events going on.

Tomorrow is both my birthday and our first strike. Most of the transit workers unions will be striking tomorrow. The metro and tram that Lilian usually takes will both be shut down. Kristian found an alternate route, but it’s going to take about twice as long to get there. I’m using my birthday privilege to make him the parent escort. Muahaha.
