Today is my favorite husband’s birthday! We took it pretty easy, but we did do a few special things for him.
Saturday night, Lilian and I snuck the fixings for french bread. Or, as the French call it, “pain perdu” (lost bread). It was exceptionally easy to store everything into Lilian’s room, because you don’t need to refrigerate your eggs in France. Also, you can purchase amazing store-brand brioche at the local Monoprix.
Lilian was tickled about the fact that they’d hidden everything behind their clothes. They kept telling Kristian, “don’t touch my stuff!!!” which he found super confusing. :p
We also bought a moka pot (and some coffee to go with it) for him. It’s so fun that you can just pop into a shop on your way somewhere. We went to the local craft store (it’s only slightly super dangerous to have one of those a five minute walk away) and then grabbed the moka pot on the way home.
We managed to get up early today to cook for Kristian. The sun sets super late here. That, combined with our natural night owl tendencies and a little bit of jet lag, has had us sleeping in most mornings. But, you know, for a guy this special, you get up when the alarm goes off.
We forgot to buy syrup, so we garnished our toast with petite suisse, honey, and some fresh mango. No pictures of that, because it was super tasty but also super weird looking.
We didn’t do much else today. We met up with a new friend. Kristian took the dog for a long walk. Lilian and I worked on some craft projects. We watched the F1 race.
And then we took this handsome man out for a birthday dinner.
The restaurant across the way from our airbnb always seems to have lines halfway down the street. We figured that with lines that long, it’s gotta be good. The food was decent, but it turns out it’s also an absolutely enormous restaurant.
It’s pretty cool, though. The decorations are delightfully maximalist. I kept making jokes that it was the European equivalent of a Chili’s… fancy drinks and a lot of cool stuff on the walls.
Lilian and I shared a pizza that had a combination of cheeses, a peach sauce, and some pieces of fresh peach. They weren’t feeling great, so I ended up eating most of it. Now, I want to experiment with making something similar at home.
All in all, it was a day just like my husband… low key and lovely. đŸ™‚
