Errata

We were video chatting with my sister Allison the other day and I made a joke about getting a kitten. She was fairly horrified that I would consider adding more responsibility into my life. I had to explain to her our house rule: no one species can outnumber humans. We used to have two cats, and two humans. But, then we went and made ourselves a tiny, little human. Technically, this means we could get another cat. My brother-in-law said that means we could get three chickens.

“Yeah,” I said. ” I made that suggestion, but Kristian pointed out that he would end up doing all the work, and I would end up eating all the eggs.”

******

The rule used to be that pets couldn’t outnumber humans. But Kristian relaxed it so he could keep the fish that we got at a wedding (Klaus, RIP).  Which is how I ended up with a dog.

******

Pets are a slippery slope, man.

******

We totally ran out of eggs this weekend. I think we need some chickens.

I’ve started keeping a mental checklist of all the things I’m going to do when I finish writing my thesis. Phase one involves cleaning out our Tivo and sleeping. Phase two involves finishing up projects like the curtains for Lilian’s nursery and wedding gifts for marriages that happened years ago. I’m not sure what phase three involves, but I’m assuming that there is alcohol involved.

******

I may or may not be completely, wildly, and utterly optimistic about all of the things that I’ll be able to do when I’m finished with my thesis. I mean, I still have a tiny human to take care of.

******

Kristian is really excited for the phase where I start doing more housework.

I’m not sure if I can really call it a first draft if it’s missing large swaths of text and lacks a conclusion, but I kindof sortof finished a first draft of my thesis this weekend. Kristian took LJ out and about on both Saturday and Sunday and I hunkered down with my laptop and wrote. Funnily enough, my biggest problem is now that the darn thing is too long. Even with sections that need to be fleshed out and without a conclusion, it’s 80+ pages. It’s supposed to be between 60 and 80 pages. Whoops.

******

My plan is to make some further cuts, finish out the missing bits, and then send a draft to my adviser later this week. That should give me time to make any changes that he recommends before I send a final version to my committee on March 15th.

******

I felt so confident on Sunday, I let myself watch the Oscars. It was… nice. Kristian and I snuggled on the couch and I texted snarky comments back and forth with my sisters and brother-in-law. I felt almost human.

******

I’m really looking forward to March 15th.

It’s never too early to encourage good taste in music.

She’s not actually crawling yet.

She’s a big fan of Gangnam Style and Call Me Maybe. So we have some work to do.
