Invisible Car!

Invisible Car!

Yesterday, Kristian and I bought a new car. The one catch? It’s kindof invisible.

We bought a Jetta Sportwagen, but they didn’t have the specific type that we wanted in stock, so we signed a purchase and sale and now the dealership gets to track down the car that we want for us. Why sign an agreement (and pay a deposit) without a car on hand? They were running some weird promotion where they gave you extra money towards trading in a Japanese car and the deal ended yesterday. I’m not fussy about exterior colors, so as long as we get the options that we want, I’m happy. And we don’t need the new car until sometime around August 29th, so we can be patient. We’re paying the same price as if they’d had one sitting right there on the lot, so it doesn’t cost us anything extra to make their acquisitions guy do a little bit of extra work.

I’m not super picky about this car, but I do have a few deal-breakers. This is the first new car that I’ve ever purchased in my whole entire life, so I think that I get to be at least a little bit fussy. There is no way in hell that it can have a black interior. If Kristian’s car sits in the sun for more than about an hour during the summer, you get back into it and you’re pretty sure that your face is about to melt off. The month when his A/C was broken? I’m still recovering from that one. No me gusta. Tan interior or bust.

I also insist on butt warmers for the front seats. We’ve owned two cars in a row with seat heaters and I’m now completely reliant on them in the winter. This one probably makes me a little more high-maintenance, but enh. What’s life without its simplest pleasures? A warm seat on a cold morning is good for pretty much whatever ails you. Unless what ails you makes your backside uncomfortably warm, I suppose.

Other than that, our car will be a 6-speed manual TDI and everything else is negotiable. I’m hoping for a red exterior, but I’ll be happy with pretty much any color that they manage to track down. I was firmly entrenched in the “no poop brown!” camp, but even that color seems to be growing on me.

I’ll miss my Tacoma, but it only had the front two bucket seats. So we never could have gone anywhere in it as a family. Even if I’d been comfortable putting a car seat up front. Which I most definitely was not.

Hopefully, the family-friendly car shows up before the baby does. :p

My 6-speed TDI (blue) Sportwagon and I heartily approve of your car purchase. Hope you love it as much as I love mine!
