Good Things

Wow. Twelve comments on my previous entry (and counting!) That’s, like, a Hope world record. Or something. Which is actually kind of sad, if you think about it. Apparently if I want to get a lot of comments, I need to get rejected from grad school. I’ll have to keep that in mind for the future.

I’m doing much better today. I’m still both very bummed out and very much in denial, but I am definitely doing better.

Seeing as how it’s been all gloom and doom around here lately, I thought that I should post some happy things. Thus, I present to you (in handy dandy list fashion!), Things That Have Made Me Happy This Week:

  • My sister’s knee surgery went well. What’s that you say? I was so wrapped up in my own problems that I forgot to mention that my sister would be going under the knife on Tuesday? I hope that I made up for my self-centeredness with the lovely (organic) bouquet that I sent her. And the care package that I put together. But haven’t sent yet (we can’t all be perfect, right?). The surgery didn’t go quite according to plan, but she seems to be recovering nicely and she’s already down to taking less Vicoden a day than Dr. House. Her boyfriend’s blog has a video of the whole thing on it. It’s strangely mesmerizing to see the inside of her knee.

  • Coffee. Even if I have to drink decaf, coffee still perks me up and makes me happy. My friend Sara treated me to a coffee from Dunks on Tuesday to cheer me up and it was just what I needed. The coffee, the milk and sugar, the knowing that a friend cares and wants you to feel better. These are all things that make me smile.

  • Retail Therapy. I talked myself out of buying this coat a couple of weeks ago because I was trying to be good and save up for grad school. But I’m not going to grad school anymore, betches, so the coat has been purchased and it is going to be fabulous. This is a dangerous road to go down, but I promise not to go out and buy seventeen Coach purses. Unless, you know, they’re on sale. I have been anxiously tracking the package. I promise pictures when my coat finally arrives. Oh, and my rainboots. I also bought some rainboots. I’d better hope that it rains sometime soon.

  • The bracelet that I made last night. I mean, how cute is this:

The best part? A friend at work liked it and wants me to make one for her. My first sale!

If you like it, I could make you one for $25 ($20 without a charm). I made a bunch of new bracelets and a pair of earrings the other night. I am looking forward to taking pictures of everything and putting it in my Etsy shop .

I derive a ridiculous amount of happiness out of making jewelry.

  • The start of baseball season. I just drafted my fantasy team. Hopefully, I won’t stink up the place like I did last season. As the only girl in my league, I feel the need to defend the honor of my gender. There was much smack talking during our draft today. It was good.

  • My recent blood tests. Perhaps I am too young to be excited about my cholesterol levels, but, then again, I crave good grade on tests. And you can’t do much better than a cholesterol level of 168 (on a full stomach, no less!). At least that’s what my doctor tells me. She went to medical school. I never took biology in high school.

  • Cheesy Movies. Last night, Kristian and I watched Enchanted. Right now, I am watching The Muppet Movie. Apparently I have regressed to the age of about six years old. Possible seven.

So, what cheers you up?

  1. First, love love love the coat. That’s an awesome color and will look spectacular on you! I also love your bracelet – that is a fantastic shade of green and hey, it’ll go with your coat! I can’t wait to see what else you come up with. What’s that saying about when a door closes, open a window?

I’m glad to hear you’re doing better, and kick ass on your cholesterol – that’s a great score. I hope you enjoyed the Muppets!

  2. Gah, I just watched part of your sister’s surgery – mesmerizing is certainly the right word. I’m glad it went well!

  3. Cute bracelet!

I wish my cholesterol was 168. I have the cholesterol of an obese man (over 260). It’s genetics. I blame my parents. I am trying to lower it though (it used to be 312!!)

  4. I love the coat! And the bracelet!

What cheers me up: my cats, my fiance, and new shoes…hehe and in that order! Poor man has been put in second place by the felines…but it was bound to happen.

  5. I tried to leave a comment on your sister’s boyfriend’s blog but apparently MAC blogs no likey me. When you talk to her, please tell her that I was asking after her and am glad that her recovery’s going well!
