DC Recap

My apologies if this entry is all over the place. I’m fricking exhausted but I just couldn’t deny you a blog entry. You can thank me (or curse me!) later.

I’m back home (ok, I was back home Monday night, I’ve been lazy). If I hadn’t missed Kristian so damned much, I would be a lot sadder to be here. The end of my visit with Jennie was awesome. How could it not be?

Cloverfield was as scary as promised. I was happy to discover that it didn’t make me motion sick. I mean, just the mere thought of driving with Kristian is enough to make me queasy. So, I was fully prepared to spend part of the move with my head between my legs. Jennie was kind enough to let me grab her hand for the scary parts. The bruises should heal. Eventually.

Fondue was also delicious (how could it not be?!) and the snark during Miss America was just awesome. I made a joke sometime that day about how I have a PhD in Sassology with a minor in snark. It’s always good when you get to use your degree!

Monday, we got up at the ass-crack of dawn (seriously, how do people who don’t live a 15 minute walk from work survive? someday I’m going to have an actual commute and I am not going to like it) to head into the Smithsonian area. Jennie and Damian needed to go to work (lame!) and I needed to be a tourist.

The museums don’t open until 10am, so Damian gave me a behind the scenes tour at the National Museum of the American Indian, where he works in the A/V department. Most people probably wouldn’t enjoy a tour that focused on A/V equipment, but I loved it. What can I say? I’m a huge nerd. Also, they have some seriously cool toys there.

We got a taste of excitement when the fire alarm went off. It ended up just being a drill (I guess that’s a good thing), but I ran into a friend of a friend in the stairway. Small world, huh? She was in town for a Board of Directors’ meeting. We used our time waiting outside to take a picture with my camera phone. This picture.

I then sent said picture to our mutual friend and it blew. her. mind. Muahahahaha.

I spent the rest of the day hitting as many museums as possible and taking many photos. Photos which I have not put on the internet. Because I am a lazy slacker. Who likes to make you wait.

(bitch!)

I was greatly saddened to discover that the American History Museum is still closed. What kind of dork gets sad about museums? I lame history nerd, I guess. Luckily for me and my nerdistry, they had a small exhibit in a corner of the Air and Space Museum. Hope needs to see the Ruby Red Slippers when she’s in DC. And talk in the third person. Freak.

I also saw a fascinating exhibit about the Wright brothers (neeeeeeeeerd!), many works of art at the National Gallery, orchids at the Botanic Garden and Congress in total lock-down in preparation for Bush’s State of the Union Address. I’m happy to report that nobody tased me, bro.

Then I had to head back to the airport (thanks for the company, Damian!) to board another tin can and fly home.

My travel luck continued when I called Jennie to let her know that I landed safely and complained “that I’ve been in the baggage claim area for a whole five minutes and where’s my… oh, there’s my suitcase.” I will never have a trip go as smoothly as this again. Ever. I fully expect that I will die an unfortunate death of dysentery on our next trip, a la the Oregon Trail. Which I have been playing on Facebook. Jennie let me die of thirst. Bitch. :p

Every time I go to the Air & Space museum, I get horribly depressed – all the cool stuff there happened when I was ten. 🙁

  2. Well at least I didn’t let you die from exploding diarrhea, cuz that just sounds utterly disgusting not to mention painful! AND I’m so glad you came to visit, and miss you! Come back!

  3. I’m very glad to hear you didn’t almost puke like I almost did in the movie theatre!
