Short Weekend

Happy MLK Day Weekend! Most people have a long weekend this weekend. I have a short weekend. The reason? I am apparently totally and completely batshit insane. I volunteered to work today and Monday. The reason? I have developed a massive addiction to overtime. Also, I am a massive glutton for punishment. The good news? Well, the fact that there will be overtime. Overtime, I love you. Overtime, I need you. Overtime, I just don’t know how to quit you.

Yeah, I’m blogging on a Saturday night. But it’s better than yesterday, when I was answering work emails on a Friday night.

Oh but, I put my laptop away and then Kristian and I had a date night. Dinner and a movie. We’re so wild and crazy! We are two wild and crazy kids! Unfortunately, I let Kristian pick the movie. He chose The Savages. I requested something lighthearted and funny. I can only imagine that Kristian subscribes to the concept of “Opposite Day,” because the Savages was so not light-hearted, it wasn’t funny. Admittedly, there were about five jokes, all of which made me laugh. Then again, most of them were about death. Death. It’s hilarious!

The movie itself was moving, tender, well-acted, etc. Laura Linney did a stunning job of portraying a morally ambiguous and conflicted character. Philip Seymour Hoffman’s character was more understated but also had depth. I’m actually glad that we went, because I’m still thinking about some of the ideas today. It’s the type of movie that just sticks with you. When we were in the middle of watching it and it just kept getting more and more depressing? Well, let’s just say that I seriously contemplated walking out and making Kristian taking me to a video store. And renting a Disney movie. I don’t even like most Disney movies. That’s how depressing that movie was. I would have happily watched New York Minute (starring the Olsen Twins!), just to get the angst out of my system.

Actually, I take that back. I find the Olsen Twins to be inherently depressing. Watching New York Minute might have reduced me to a catatonic state.

Anyways, the movie was good, even if depressing. It was still nice to get out, just the two of us. Although, next time? We’re totally going to see Enchanted.

This morning I woke up at the ass-crack of dawn to let in a vendor to fix the A/V system in one of our classrooms at work. He pronounced the part that we thought was broken to be… broken. He didn’t have a spare. Of course. I love vendors, they make my life so interesting.

After I left work, I went to a pilates class at my gym that turned into a “burn and firm” class when the pilates teacher didn’t show up. All of the pilates barbies were extremely put out. Me? I went to the class because it was available. I was happy to burn and firm and then take a three hour nap on the couch.

Oh dear sweet baby jeebus, my life has become lame. Please give me some ideas on how I can manufacture some drama to spice things up around here.

  1. I’m equally lame. I’m home working on my blog on Saturday night, and Friday night meant McDonald’s and a college hockey game. A pretty bad one.

Seriously, what are we going to do about this?

  2. Enchanted has to be one of the best movies I have seen lately!

    Seriously.

  3. Are we more or less lame for playing scrabble in the pub next door on a Friday night?

  4. Enchanted was really good, surprisingly good. Even my mother-in law to be like it and she’s definitely not a Disney animated fan. Speaking of movies…we should totally go and see Cloverfield…cuz I’m no officially obsessed with this movie.
