Relax! Relax!

We just got an invitation to my soon-to-be-Sister-in-law’s bachelorette party. It’s going to be held here. Thus, I have a very important question to ask you internets…. which spa service should I get? I need to let the organizer know fairly quickly, so that she can book services in advance. The party is on December 30th, right smack dab in the middle of Christmas and New Year’s, when people get gift certificates as gifts and want to look their best when going out. So, they anticipate that things will fill up quickly.

My first instinct is to get a facial, because that’s what I enjoyed the best when my friend Liza and I did a spa day back in October. But, the wedding is New Year’s Eve. Is getting a facial the day before a big event (where I will be wearing makeup) too risky? I was a little red in the face immediately after my last (and only) facial, but I was fine the next day. Hopefully that wasn’t first timers luck! I would really hate to show up in the wedding photos as “That’s my blotchy sister. She’s not usually that puffy.”
The other complication is that I am now using the prospect of going back for another facial as motivation in the second phase of my weight loss plan. I told myself that, if I can get down to 140 pounds, I’ll go back to Moodz and treat myself to a facial. So, lately (especially with all of the temptations that come with the holiday season), I’ve been saying to myself, “would you rather have a cookie or a facial?” and, surprisingly enough, I almost always choose facial. (I’m down to 149 pounds!) It’s going to be a lot less of a motivating factor if I know that I can have a cookie and a facial, because I already booked an appointment.

Perhaps the only way to work this out is to ask myself, “Do you want a cookie, or a full day at the spa?” because I am always, always going to choose spa day. Always. Especially if, once I am safely wrapped up in a bathrobe, being pampered, I can eat cookies. Spa + cookies, it’s a winning combination.

I’m assuming that we are paying for our own spa treatments, so cost should also probably be a factor. The organizer already booked a bunch of massages and foot facials (which are like facials! but for your feet). I have to say, the foot facials do sound really nice. As do the massages.

Argh! I can’t decide!

  1. I definitely wouldn’t get a facial the day before. save it for a reward!

  2. I looooove massages. That is the ultimate relaxation to me. I think I’d wait on the facial too because you never know what they are going to use on your face. You might end up with someone who does some extreme exfoliation or something and then your face is red for days, or one of those people that like to squeeze your skin to death.

  3. I agree with Jamie and Lisa, I’d avoid the facial the day before. Hmmm massages so much fun and relaxing…though I usually fall asleep and then drool, so fun for me but not so much for the masseuse. Maybe a pedi or manicure? Their manicures look really interesting, and relaxing.

  4. You know I’m a whore for facials, but I agree with everyone else – it can be dicey just before an event, especially if your esthetician (or whatever they’re actually called) is as extraction-happy as mine.

On the other hand, if you get a mani-pedi, odds are high it will still look gorgeous for the wedding, unless you take up construction or professional grout-scrubbing or something in between.

Also, just have to say, best bachelorette party idea I’ve ever heard. Totally ganking it.
