Things Change. Things Stay the Same.

Just about nine months ago, I made my most recent bus trip down to NYC to see my sister, Melissa, and her family. I’m trying to think of something deep and meaningful to say about how, in nine short months, our family has permanently changed (and for the better!), but all I can think about is how excited I am to be taking the bus down to meet my brand new niece and see the rest of my New York family.

We have an exciting weekend planned. First of all, I plan to hold the baby. Then, I plan to hold the baby some more. I plan not to have a repeat of holding my nephew as a baby for so long he accidentally missed a feeding. But, well, accidents happen.

I plan to give my nephew the awesomestly awesomest present of all time… a Superman shirt with a cape that snaps onto it. I made that cape myself, peoples. With my own two hands. It’s red. It’s shiny. It’s made of so much pure awesome, it repels Kryptonite. Which is a good thing. Because my nephew is going to put that shirt and cape on and turn into Superman. I plan to take pictures to share with all of you. I hope that you plan to tell me how awesome my cape (and by extension, myself) is.

I plan to take my nephew to the zoo. He gets some auntie-time, my sister gets some baby bonding time. Throw in some monkeys and it’s a win-win-win situation. I was planning to spoil my nephew’s dinner with ice cream, but apparently trips to the zoo mean just one thing… M&Ms. So, M&Ms is what he’s going to get.

I plan to come back to Boston with a significantly lighter backpack. Because it won’t have eight tons of adorably girlie baby clothes in it or a handmade quilt. Buying so many cute little outfits might not seem fiscally prudent… but I just see it as an investment in our future childrens’ pool of availableĀ hand-me-downs.

I plan to have a great time catching up with my friend Erin.

In short, I plan to have an awesome weekend. Anything short of 135% complete and utter WIN will be unacceptable. And I will be asking the Universe for my money back.

What are your plans for the weekend?
