VOCODER . . . he sings through a vocoder. yes he uses autotune on his released tracks, but sound here is due to singing into a vocoder air pipe which alters the pitch according to the notes being hit on the synth.

autotune, when used correctly, is _not_ noticeable . . . almost every pop song you hear nowadays it thrown through autotune, it just corrects so it sounds like they are singing perfectly in tune.

sorry this just drives me nuts . . . some more vocoder use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i88CKr6Shn4

hmmmm i misspoke slightly . . . t-pain uses a talkbox as shown in the video i posted. vocoders are for more daft punk / mr. roboto type sounds. the difference is the talkbox uses the actual shape of the mouth and airflow to distort, which preserves more of the tonality, and the vocoder simply modulates the input frequency by the carrier frequency generated by the synth. both don’t leach the soul from the vocals like autotune and its false perfection imbuing sophistication . . . it is evil.

lol way to derail a mother’s day post 🙂 sorry moms reading this!
