I take a lot of public transportation. Which means that I spend a lot of time standing around waiting for said transportation. One of my new favorite methods of passing the time is listening to podcasts on my iPhone. They help to drown out crazy people. Plus I usually learn a few things from them.
These are a couple of my favorites.
Sound Opinions. This show is the greatest thing since sliced bread. In fact, it might be even better than sliced bread. Sliced bread doesn’t tell you about all sorts of awesome music. They tend to like a lot of pop and rock music, but there’s all sorts of other genres represented as well. The other day, I bought a K’Naan album on their recommendation.
NPR’s Planet Money. Planet Money helped me to understand how the Madoff ponzi scheme worked. And to come to a more nuanced understanding of the AIG bonus situation. Mostly, I like it because it helps me to become better educated about the current financial crisis without becoming completely and utterly depressed. Well, mostly not completely and utterly depressed. It’s a fairly depressing situation.
I’m also a fan of the NPR Books podcast and the ability to listen to Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me and Car Talk.
What are some of your favorite podcasts?
Streetlife DJ’s . . . great mixes.
SciFi Fridays . . . old radio shows . . . found them trying to find the original War of the World broadcast . . . don’t listen too often but there is a lot of neat stuff.
This American Life occasionally.
I don’t use em as much as I used to, cause the zune’s been sitting uncharged in my car for a long while. I had a brief period where i would listen a bunch while the carputer was dead.
YES i own a zune. it was uber cheap on woot, damnit.
I’ll have to check out the Planet Money ones. Anything that talks about financials without being depressing sounds great.
umm…sound opinions is the best. and ya heard it from me…that means i’m the best!
in seriousness, i also like coffee break spanish.
