Municipal Elections: Part Deux

Fun fact! The “Écologist” mayor of Lyon, Grégory Doucet, won reelection yesterday. He won by about 3,000 votes. That’s pretty darn close, but seeing as how everyone said he was going to lose the first round in a blow-out? It’s pretty darn great.

Kristian was hoping that he’d be able to cast a ballot, but he wasn’t eligible yet. As an EU citizen, he’s allowed to vote in municipal elections (even after I get my residency permit, I won’t be able to). We’re so lucky to have a French friend willing to answer all of our questions about paperwork, because we have a LOT of questions about paperwork. We were trying to figure out if he could vote, and she told him to log into a website using the login that he uses for all of the other paperwork he’s working on. Survey says… no voting this time.

He grabbed our mail from the box downstairs and I’ll give you exactly one guess as to what showed up: his official notification that his registration was accepted. They’ll be sending him his voter paperwork.

Good thing our guy won!

Emmanuel Grégoire was elected as they mayor of Paris, which prompted this fantastic moment, where he grabbed a bike share and rode to city hall:

Say what you will about the paperwork in France… getting around by bike is so easy, even a politician can do it.
