A belated happy VE Day to all who celebrate!
(Given that it’s also called Victory over Fascism Day, we should all celebrate).

We’re halfway through a stretch of Friday holidays. Last Friday was May Day and next Friday is Ascension Day.
May Day is a celebration of the start of summer, and also International Workers’ Day. Back in the US, we celebrate it as Labor Day. The holiday has more teeth here, however, with most workers actually getting the day off.
The touristy parts of the city were hopping, but our neighborhood was super quiet. The transit lines weren’t running, and most stores weren’t open. I’d say it was similar to our standard Sunday, but with slightly more stores closed. One of our French friends told us that the traditional thing to do is go back home to see family and have a nice meal.
Yesterday was busier, with more businesses open (including all of the transit lines). Some boulangeries and cafés were closed, but there were still plenty of food options. Lilian and I decided to go out for brunch, which is not really a thing here. But, hey, there’s no law against eating a meal at mid-morning! So, we did just that. We walked over to a local café that we’ve been meaning to try for a while now. They serve standard breakfast fare, done really well. We each had a chai, and we shared a cheese omelette and a cinnamon roll. It was just lovely!
We spent the rest of the day knitting (me) and crocheting (her). Sometimes it’s nice to spend a holiday relaxing.
