Allow me to get all political on your asses for a moment. Just a moment. I try to keep this blog fairly light-hearted, but this stuff really matters.<\/p>\n
A lot of people I know have recently mentioned that they are scared about the upcoming election. I’m not scared. No, not me. No sirree Bob. No way Jose.<\/p>\n
I’m terrified.<\/p>\n
I’m terrified that a woman who doesn’t even know what the vice-president does<\/em> could wind up an old man’s heartbeat away from the presidency.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
I’m terrified that the election of Bush II will further alienate the United States from the rest of the world.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
I’m terrified that there are people who are seriously listening to an unemployed plumber who isn’t even registered to vote.<\/p>\n
I’m terrified that there are people out there who would say that I’m not a real American.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n
I’m terrified at a country that might not be able to get past its own racism in order to vote for a non-white man for president.<\/p>\n
I’m terrified that, due to the Bradley effect, all of the people who told pollsters that they’re voting for Obama will really be voting for McCain.<\/p>\n
It’s a terrifying world that we live in. We have the potential to make some real change on Tuesday. I will be watching the election results with equal amounts of hope and terror. And probably with a drink in my hand. We’ve invited some friends over, because I figure that there is safety in numbers. Because I am terrified. Really and truly terrified.<\/p>\n
It’s times like this that I am cheered by the fact that the Daily Show and John Stewart exist. And, should Obama win this election, we’re going to have one very funny president:<\/p>\n
