I mean, there I was hanging out in my pj’s in a room that I’ve mentally decorated and redecorated countless times in the past few months. We weren’t sure if we were ever going to be able to buy this house, and suddenly we were about to spend our first night there. In less than a week, we repainted the master bedroom, moved all of our stuff in and started making the house feel like home.

There was never any doubt in my mind that this was the house for us. It was the only place that we looked at where I could really see myself living. It was also the only place we looked at that didn’t have any major damage of some kind of another, but that’s neither here nor there. Both Kristian and I agreed that this house had something about it that just said, “Live here. You know you want to.” And then it took months and months to get to a short sale settlement. And our lawyer tried to manage our expectations. And we told ourselves that we might have to find another house. But I kept mentally choosing colors and arranging our furniture.

I think that my mental exercises paid off, because the beautiful sky blue that we painted our bedroom gives the room a peaceful feeling. Last night, I slept better than I’ve slept in weeks, possible months. Possibly it was the exhaustion of carrying all of our worldly possessions in from the POD. Potentially it was the relief of knowing that we (finally!) had a place to call our home. But, I’d like to think that it was also because we setup a bedroom that’s harmonious and tranquil. I took some pictures. They’re on Kristian’s camera, but I’ll try to upload them sometime this week.

Moving is stressful. Buying a house is expensive. I spent $200 on paint and painting supplies on Friday (is latex another word for unicorn tears or something?). I plan to spend the next year or so totally broke and with no free time to speak of. And I couldn’t be more excited. I love this house. I love what we’re doing with this house. I love our new neighborhood. I love the fact that all of our neighbors have introduced themselves to us. I love that they all say hi with us when they walk by.

I can’t wait to spend next weekend building raised beds and planting vegetables in our backyard.

This is the house where Kristian and I will (someday) be having kids. The house that was the impetus behind us opening up a joint bank account. The house that has left us too broke to get married. :p

I’m sorry to get so maudlin. I’m just so excited and happy.

At some point last night, I turned to Kristian and said, “Did you ever think that we would make it to this point?” He agreed with me that it was…

"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paywalled_content":false
_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[2

post-330","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-random
["GET
