And, since I was home sick today and, thus, didn’t do anything interesting, I might as well write about it now.

Blogging on a Friday night is in no way, shape or form lame. I just keep telling myself that.

Anyways…

Any day that you get to watch your football team beat their opponent into submission and then drive home and watch your baseball team win a World Series is a pretty good day in my book. For a Boston sports fan, it’s a special kind of day. I’m almost to the point where I’m not waiting for the worst that can happen. Almost.

My friend Jeff and his mom were going to the Pats game on Sunday and they had an extra ticket. Jeff knows that I am a rabid sports fan, so he invited me along.

We drove down early to do a little tailgating. As further proof that the world is a whole lot smaller than you would think that it is, we ended up parking right next to a van full of kids from the Boys and Girls Club that I used to work at. Thousands of people there for a game and we somehow ended up in the same parking lot. What are the odds?

It was great. Because, you know, nothing makes me want to drink beer in a parking lot than doing so in full view of a bunch of kids who (theoretically) look up to me. I poured my beer into a decorative Patriots glass. It could have been apple juice, right? We also went around to the other side of the car. I also might have slouched into my seat a little. It was like high school all over again. Except, you know, this time around we were going to watch a local sports team that had an actual chance of winning the game. I don’t miss the 90’s that much.

The game itself was a blast. People have accused the Pats of running up the score. And those people were probably right. I am not here to talk about sportsmanship. I am here to talk about how awesome it is to see an interception get run back for a touchdown in person. And it is awesome. Awesome!

We hung out in the parking lot after the game. There really isn’t much point in trying to drive home when you can see a long line of cars not moving. And there are oreos. And Redskins fans that you can taunt.

Part of me wishes that I had made plans to watch the Red sox game in a bar, but it was fun to watch the game with Kristian, Jeff and Jeff’s mom. I was at a bar in 2004 and it is a lot of fun, but both experiences had their merits. I just can’t get over how it feels to be a Boston sports fan and to not have a permanent sense of impending doom.

Kristian had a client tonight who asked him to make an emergency site visit tomorrow instead of tonight because he didn’t want to leave the Celtics game that he was at to let Kristian into the building. Imagine! A Celtics game that people didn’t want to run away screaming from.

It’s a brave new world for Boston sports fans.

I just realized that I never blogged about last Sunday.
